Grand Pi Mai Lao Celebrations to Be Held Across Six Provinces

This Week

The Lao Brewery Company has announced plans to host a large-scale New Year celebration during the upcoming Pi Mai Lao festival from 14 to 16 April.

The three-day event will take place simultaneously in six provinces and will offer entry for individuals aged 18 and above. According to the organizers, the initiative is designed to bring communities together through music, cultural activities, and water festivities in line with the traditions of Lao New Year.

Events will be staged at the Mekong riverfront in front of Vat Chan in Vientiane, Lane Xang Square in Luang Prabang, the Provincial Sports Stadium in Oudomxay, Anouvong Avenue in Thakhaek, Khammouane Province, Savan ITECC in Savannakhet, and the KM2 Stadium in Champasak.

The program will include live music performances, designated water play zones, and food vendors at each location. Organizers stated that the event is structured to promote safety and inclusivity while incorporating modern entertainment elements alongside traditional celebrations.

Pi Mai Lao is one of the country’s most significant cultural festivals, traditionally marked by temple visits, Baci ceremonies, merit-making, and the pouring of water over Buddha images and elders as a symbol of renewal and good fortune.

Public celebrations typically feature music, dance, and community gatherings, along with the customary water splashing associated with the holiday.

By hosting coordinated events across multiple provinces, organizers aim to encourage broader participation, reduce overcrowding at single venues, and support local communities during the festive period.
