The 2026 Luang Prabang Boat Racing Festival has wrapped up, bringing communities together for another season of racing, tradition, and celebration.
For generations, boat racing has brought villages and families together. Long before the boats reach the river, communities come together to repair and decorate their boats, prepare ceremonies, share meals, and welcome family members home.
This year, Namkhong, through HEINEKEN Lao Brewery’s collaboration with Luang Prabang authorities, helped bring some of these stories to life through a storytelling and livestream initiative.
The stories featured boats that have carried generations of memories, from community-built boats that have raced for decades to sister boats carved from a single tree.
Boat racing also shares the same values at the heart of Namkhong’s heritage: togetherness, friendship, and community. Its iconic racing boat logo shows people sharing the journey, while the brand’s “Sabai Moment” message is about taking time to reconnect and enjoy the people around us.
Across Laos, boat racing season is about more than the race itself. It is about families coming home, villages working together, and traditions being passed from one generation to the next.
The 2026 Luang Prabang Boat Racing Festival has ended, but the stories behind it remain. For generations, boat racing has brought villages and families together, with communities preparing boats, ceremonies, and meals long before race day.
