Laos exported a total of 3,810 tons of agricultural products through the Thabok-Thanaleng International Border Crossing in September, generating over USD 1.8 million in revenue.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment report on 21 October, major exports included cassava flour, rubber, bananas, fertilizer, furniture wood, and dried mushrooms, reaching three international markets.
China received the largest share, including 2,061 tons of cassava flour worth USD 916,997, 1,356 tons of rubber worth USD 2,343,873, banana worth USD 891,261 with 1,747 tons, and 660 tons of fertilizer worth USD 215,160.
Exports to Spain included 50 tons of furniture wood valued at USD 8,659 and 10 tons of styrax acuminatus pohl worth USD 110,000. Meanwhile, the Republic of Korea imported two tons of dried lacquered racket valued at USD 2,673.
Thanaleng Dry Port (TDP) is playing a significant role in the new ASEAN Express international freight train network, connecting Laos, China, Thailand, and Malaysia.
The export growth aligns with Laos’ broader efforts to improve regional logistics.
Laos-Malaysia Corridor Boosts Trade Efficiency
In May, Laos and Malaysia inaugurated a new trade corridor linking TDP to Malaysia’s Penang Port, the corridor connecting the Lao-China Railway directly to the sea.
This provides faster, more cost-effective cargo transport and access to major markets in India and Africa.
The corridor builds on a previous Perlis-Vientiane link, enhancing trade efficiency and opportunities for Lao businesses.
The first trial run began on 27 June, linking Malaysia to Songkhla in Thailand and China. Thanaleng serves as a key transfer hub, converting freight from Thailand’s 1-meter-wide rails to Laos’ 1,435-meter-wide rails, a process taking about two hours.
The railway cuts transportation time from three weeks to nine days and reduces costs by over 30 percent, boosting trade competitiveness.

A survey by Ipsos, sponsored by GSK, found that while 63% of adults aged 50 years or over in Singapore were aware of shingles, only 29% recognised that 1 in 3 may develop the disease in their lifetime.
Less than half of respondents (44%) understood that shingles can increase the risk of stroke or heart attack; fewer (36%) knew that the risk for shingles further increases amongst those with underlying chronic health conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cardiovascular disease, or diabetes.
Only 1 in 4 intended to discuss shingles prevention with their doctor within the next three months.
Survey findings reinforce need for deeper understanding of shingles and to encourage older adults to consult their doctors on shingles prevention.
SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 22 October 2025 – A new survey1 highlighted that 63% of older adults aged 50 years or over in Singapore recognised shingles, also known as herpes zoster, as a serious disease. However, two out of three underestimated their personal risk of contracting the disease. Despite the high awareness in this group, only 25% intended to discuss shingles prevention with their doctor within the next three months.
The survey further showed that only 44% of respondents understood that those who have had shingles are at a significantly higher risk of heart attack (+59%) and stroke (+35%) compared to those who have not had shingles.2
The survey also found that 36% of respondents know that the risk for shingles further increases amongst those with underlying chronic health conditions.3
A local study has earlier reported that more than 85% of Singaporean adults aged 60 years or over have declared having been diagnosed with at least one chronic health condition.4 The five most reported chronic health conditions amongst older adults in Singapore in 2020 were: high blood pressure or hypertension; high blood cholesterol or lipids; joint pain, arthritis, or nerve pain; high blood sugar or diabetes; and renal/kidney or urinary tract ailments.4
The “Shingles Awareness Tracking Survey” conducted by Ipsos, on behalf of GSK, surveyed 200 adults aged 50 years or over in July of this year to measure the level of public understanding and perceptions of shingles in Singapore.1
In the survey, only 48% of respondents understood that the virus which causes chickenpox during childhood, the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), can remain in the body and reactivate later in life to cause shingles. 5,6
VZV is present in most adults aged 50 years or over7 and may reactivate with advancing age.8 As people age, the strength of the immune system response to infection wanes, increasing the risk of developing shingles.9
Dr Asok Kurup, from the Infectious Diseases Care Department at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, explained, “In Singapore, more than 90% of adults aged 50 years or over carry this virus.10 This means one in three will eventually develop shingles.”9
The survey also showed that at least 70% of respondents could identify the common symptoms of shingles such as a painful rash at the affected site.5 Moreover, at least 60% understood that the disease could lead to long-term, potentially permanent, complications such as nerve pain, also known as Postherpetic Neuralgia (PHN), that can last for years.11
PHN is the most common complication of shingles. It affects approximately 10% to 18% of people with the disease, and the risk of PHN increases with age.12
To help encourage more older adults to consult their doctors about shingles, GSK launched an initiative in October that hired and trained seniors aged 50 years or over to become community ambassadors for shingles awareness. These ambassadors have been participating in various wellness events and activities at ageing centres, where they share personal stories and encourage their peers to go and speak with their doctor about the disease and the ways to prevent it.
A shingles awareness community ambassador (left) demonstrates a simulation of long-term pain or postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), a potential complication of shingles.11 Photo: GSK.
Ms Claire, who is in her forties, shared in a conversation with GSK, “When my father had shingles for the second time around, he was in his 60’s.13 And he came out one day, saying ‘Look, take a look at this,’ and there were rashes on his forehead and a little bit on his torso.13 He said that there was stinging pain,11 and I could feel that he was undergoing this pain because he did not wipe his face and wash. He would wake up a few times at night because of the pain on his forehead and body.”
Claire is a caregiver to her father, Christopher, who was diagnosed with shingles twice. Photo: GSK.
“While we see that overall awareness continues to improve, we need to further strengthen the understanding of our communities on the increased risk of shingles amongst adults aged 50 years or over — and it can be prevented. Go speak with your doctor,” said Dr Asok.

Studio Blue sets new benchmarks for game audio production
SINGAPORE, Oct. 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Ubisoft Singapore, a leading AAA game development studio in Southeast Asia, has recently outfitted its newly upgraded Studio Blue with Neumann studio monitors which belongs to Sennheiser Group to support advanced audio production workflows. As the first Dolby Atmos-enabled game development sound studio in Southeast Asia, Studio Blue is fitted with eleven Neumann KH 80 DSPs and a KH 810 subwoofer, delivering precision and clarity for immersive sound design.
When Ubisoft Singapore decided to reimagine its audio facilities, the ambition was clear – to create a future-proof space where sound could drive deeper storytelling and elevate immersive experiences for players worldwide. That vision came to life in Studio Blue, now featuring a state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos setup tailored for immersive game audio production.
Established in 2008, Ubisoft Singapore has been at the forefront of AAA game development in the region. From early co-development work on titles like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Assassin’s Creed, the studio has grown into a lead developer, spearheading projects such as Skull and Bones, released in 2024. Today, the Singapore team is known for its expertise in naval gameplay and water technology as well as its commitment to pushing the boundaries of immersive storytelling through game development, now powered by their investment in next-generation audio facilities.
Building a future-proof setup
Within its 33,000 sq. ft, office space, Ubisoft Singapore houses three sound studios, each dedicated and tailored to a specific aspect of game audio production. Studio Red functions as a recording studio while Studio Black serves as its live room. Studio Blue, previously known as Studio A, underwent a complete transformation, moving from a traditional 5.1 setup to a Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 configuration designed specifically for mixing and asset creation.
The discussions about upgrading of Studio A started way back in 2019, but the pandemic put those plans on hold. When Ubisoft Singapore relocated to a new office space within the same building in 2022, the team saw it as an opportunity to reimagine their studio setup. They wanted to build a studio that could meet current needs and still remain relevant for the next decade and beyond.
“As audio technology and the gaming industry continue to evolve, we are always looking for ways to enhance our soundscapes so that players can have the best immersive auditory experience. The jump from 5.1 to Dolby Atmos felt like the natural next step, thanks to its 3D object-based workflow, which enables our games to be experienced as intended by the widest possible audience,” said Nicolas Ow, Associate Lead Audio Designer at Ubisoft Singapore. With support and consultation from their vendor Broadcast Communications International as well as Dolby Singapore, they created Studio Blue, the first Dolby Atmos Gaming Sound Studio in Southeast Asia.
Consistency is key
Choosing the right monitors was critical in bringing Studio Blue to life. After evaluating several options and visiting other Dolby Atmos studios, the team chose Neumann KH 80 DSP monitors as they provided the best balance between size and frequency response. The smaller form factor also made it possible to achieve a full, accurate sound without overwhelming the studio’s layout, keeping the space open and comfortable for long creative sessions.
“We chose Neumann for its sonic characteristics and consistent sound across the entire range of KH monitors. Bigger does not necessarily mean better because balance is more important to us, especially when dealing with 3D Object based mixing in a multi-speaker, surround sound, Dolby Atmos environment,” added Erik-Jon Evangelista, Audio Director at Ubisoft Singapore.
Consistency was also a decisive factor. The setup allows the team’s mixes to translate more reliably across a wide range of consumer systems. “To us, it is much more important to sound the same across more systems than to only sound amazing on one,” Erik added.
Immersion through audio
For Ubisoft Singapore, audio has always been at the heart of immersion. Just as visuals draw players into a world, sound anchors them emotionally and spatially within it. A misplaced sound can instantly break immersion, while accurate, well-crafted audio deepens the emotional connection and gameplay experience.
The Dolby Atmos setup in Studio Blue allows the team to place sounds more precisely in three-dimensional space, making it easier for players to interpret cues—such as an enemy approaching from behind or above—that stereo or traditional surround cannot replicate.
“Games, much like films, are about escapism. People dive into them to step away from reality for a while, and the heart of that experience lies in immersion,” explained Nicolas. “If something sounds off or does not feel natural, it breaks that immersion immediately.”
For Ubisoft Singapore, success in audio often means going unnoticed. “Audio is what makes a horror game scary, what makes an empty street feel alive, and what reinforces every action on screen,” Erik explained. “At its best, audio reinforces atmosphere, tension, or emotion without drawing attention to itself.”
Growth and the road ahead
Over the past 17 years, Ubisoft Singapore has expanded from fewer than 100 employees to nearly 500 today. The audio team has grown from just four members to 12, while its sound facilities have expanded from a single studio to three.
“Being part of this growth and putting Singapore on the global gaming map is a source of pride,” Erik reflected. “We are committed to keeping the studio at the forefront of game development in Southeast Asia, continuously pushing the boundaries of immersive storytelling.”
