China heading to its next 5-year plan with green resolution

Attendees exchange ideas during the 2025 Annual General Meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development in Beijing on Thursday.

China has made remarkable progress in systemic governance for its green transition, with even more expected during the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), according to international experts.

On Thursday, experts and officials from the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development gathered in Beijing to share insights on China’s green transition in the coming five years, contributing their expertise to sustainable development both in China and throughout the world.

Beate Trankmann, resident representative of the United Nations Development Programme in China, said the nation’s green transition efforts over the next five years will not only shape its domestic trajectory, but also influence international trends.

Zhao Yingmin, a CCICED member and former vice-minister of ecology and environment, said China’s experience over the past decade demonstrates that the green transition is both a challenge and an opportunity.

“It is the only policy path for the global community to address the ecological and climate crises we all face,” he said.

“How the 15th Five-Year Plan is shaped is significant not only for China, but also for the world,” Zhao added.

At a time when multilateralism faces challenges, China’s experiences and planning provide an important answer to whether the green transition should be pursued.

According to Ren Yong, leader of the core expert group of the CCICED High-Level Task Force, assessments show that China’s green transition is accelerating across the board, and green development has become a defining feature of China’s high-quality economic growth in the new era.

“China’s green industries have played a major role in driving GDP growth,” Ren said, citing the country’s world-leading renewable energy system as well as the most comprehensive and complete new energy industry chain globally. He emphasized that China’s approach to green development follows a systematic “Chinese solution”, integrating theory, action, institutions and capacity.

Gim Huay Neo, managing director at the World Economic Forum and CCICED special adviser, praised China for integrating energy and environmental goals into industrial policy and leveraging technology and innovation to drive the transition.

She added, “Because China’s integration of energy policy into industrial policy has proven highly competitive, it should not, however, become a barrier to collaborative efforts.”

China’s evolving role in green transition over the past decade has made it significant for global sustainable development in the future, according to experts.

Miranda Schreurs, chair of climate and environmental policy at the Technical University of Munich in Germany, noted that as global progress in the green transition stalls, China has the potential to make it a reality.

“China plays a central role in demonstrating how green transformation can become a stronger part of the United Nations’ activities,” she said, while stressing the importance of multilateralism in today’s world.

Dirk Messner, president of the German Environment Agency, added that China has evolved from a learner to a pioneer in green transition.

“Instead of viewing it as a zero-sum game, we can explore ways to make it a positive-sum game,” he said.

Looking ahead, Ren emphasized that China should maintain its strategic resolve in promoting the green transition, which should ensure the achievement of domestic green goals while strengthening certainty in global sustainable development.

Experts also emphasized the need for a more just transition that extends the benefits of green development to a broader population.

Getinge Interim Report July-September 2025: High organic sales growth and stronger margins despite geopolitical headwinds

GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Oct. 21, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — “We demonstrated strength in the third quarter with significant organic growth, improved profitability and cash flow despite impacts from tariffs and negative currency effects,” says Mattias Perjos, President & CEO, Getinge. The medtech company’s net sales increased organically by 9,5% while order intake rose by 4,7% organically.

Acute Care Therapies continued to meet the higher demand for ventilators, in the wake of an ongoing market consolidation. Order intake and sales of ECLS consumables were also significant. Both Life Science and Surgical Workflows set sales records for the third quarter, mainly due to persistently robust growth in Sterile Transfer and a strong demand for operating tables.

One year has now passed since Paragonix became part of Getinge and the company is included organically from September.

“It is encouraging to see the organization’s success at conducting business and we now look forward to increasing the pace of expansion initiated in selected markets outside the U.S.,” says Mattias Perjos, President & CEO.

During the quarter, Getinge got the CE Mark back for the intra-aortic balloon pump Cardiosave, and deliveries are expected to resume in the fourth quarter.

“Recently, also our Advanta V12 balloon expandable covered stent received approval for three further indications, which is key to strengthening our position in the European market,” Perjos explains.

Adjusted EBITA increased in the quarter, despite tariff costs and currency effects totaling SEK -236 M compared with last year. Getinge’s price adjustment strategy remains successful, but short term the medtech company needs to absorb a large share of the tariff costs.

“However, intensified efforts to improve cost efficiency and boost productivity are generating results and in general, we are successful at keeping material cost development under control,” says Perjos. “We are essentially well positioned to manage the geopolitical challenges by leveraging our leading position in key niches that meet long-term increasing healthcare needs. Considering the tariff levels to date, we have chosen to reiterate our financial target.”

The medtech company is now entering the last quarter of the year with tough comparative figures.

“I would like to thank all our customers and employees for their important efforts that creates value for clinical staff and patients,” says Perjos.

July-September 2025 in brief

  • Net sales increased organically by 9.5% (0.2) and the order intake rose by 4.7% organically (7.4).

Expanding the ESG Alliance: Building a Global Network for Sustainability

A key highlight of the conference was the launch of the Chery Global ESG Advisory Alliance, marking a major upgrade in Chery’s sustainability strategy.
This year, the alliance expanded significantly — welcoming new globally influential members such as the IUCN, the United Nations University, and the Asian Paralympic Committee.
The alliance now encompasses a broader network of media, NGOs, and financial institutions, fostering a rich, collaborative ecosystem.

Notably, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon attended in person and officially joined the alliance as an ESG Advisor.

His participation not only enhanced the alliance’s international credibility but also reflected global recognition of Chery’s sustainability roadmap. Through this upgraded alliance, Chery is transforming ESG from an internal corporate initiative into a global collaborative movement, promoting deep cooperation in low-carbon R&D, public welfare programs, and industry standardization.

At the ESG strategy level, Chery has built a comprehensive framework supported by three key pillars: “Low-Carbon Transition and Nature Positive,” “Value Chain Collaboration,” and “Self-Discipline and Compliance Development.” The Group has already made substantial progress across multiple dimensions.

On the technological front, Chery promotes low-carbon transformation through innovations such as the Mars Architecture Hybrid Platform and solid-state battery technology.

On the environmental front, it became the first Chinese automaker to receive a mutual recognition report for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) between China and the EU.

On the social responsibility front, Chery continues to collaborate with UNICEF on the “Empowering Every Child’s Learning Journey” initiative and works with the IUCN to advance global nature conservation projects — demonstrating its firm commitment to turning ESG promises into tangible action.

Co-Define — Shaping the Strategic Blueprint for Intelligent Mobility

Strategic Elevation Defines a New Paradigm for Intelligent Mobility

In the grand finale, Mr. Zhang Guibing, President of Chery International, delivered a keynote speech themed “Co-Creating Sustainable Development, Co-Defining the Future Ecosystem,” elaborating on Chery’s strategic evolution from a traditional automaker to a builder of intelligent mobility ecosystems.

He noted that Chery has ranked No.1 among Chinese brands in overseas sales for 22 consecutive years, with monthly exports exceeding 100,000 units for five consecutive months. Its new energy vehicle growth rate leads among China’s top five auto brands, and PHEV models have achieved No.1 retail sales in multiple markets — achievements that firmly validate the foundation of Chery’s strategic transformation.

Driven by the global trends of low-carbon transition and AI intelligence, the automotive industry is rapidly evolving toward an integrated “vehicle + ecosystem” model. In this context, Chery is building a comprehensive technology ecosystem that transcends the traditional automotive domain — one that deeply integrates users, vehicles, robots, and big data.

This system is anchored in intelligent, connected new energy vehicles, while extending into emerging fields such as flying cars, robotaxis, robotics, photovoltaics, and green energy, forming a diversified and synergistic innovation network. Moving forward, Chery will dedicate part of its teams to the automotive business and others to the research, development, and operation of new ventures like robotics, jointly shaping a future-oriented mobility ecosystem.

Mr. Zhang further detailed Chery’s roadmap: Strengthening leadership in PHEV hybrid and BEV electric platforms. Accelerating commercialization of autonomous driving technologies. Advancing innovation in robotics and aerial mobility. Deepening localization under the philosophy “In somewhere, For somewhere, Be somewhere.”

This strategic transformation marks Chery’s evolution from a traditional automaker into a green, intelligent mobility technology company that co-creates, co-defines, and co-prospers with its users and partners. By building an open and collaborative innovation ecosystem, Chery is not only redefining the boundaries of the mobility industry but also opening new pathways for shared growth with global partners.

Co-Create. Co-Define. Co-Win the Future.

Through its dynamic structure of speeches, dialogues, and collaborative announcements, the 2025 Chery International User Summit vividly embodied its theme of “Co-Create, Co-Define.”

From Ban Ki-moon’s participation to user stories from across the globe, from the robotic performances that opened the event to the upgraded ESG Alliance, Chery conveyed a clear message to the world:
It is not building a closed product system, but an open, evolving, user-driven mobility ecosystem.

As technology converges with humanity, and users evolve from product consumers to ecosystem co-creators, Chery’s vision extends beyond cars — toward a new way for people to connect with the world.

Art on the Walls, Calm in the Chair: Dentalis Reimagines the Patient Experience

A tri-level sanctuary where contemporary art, curated library, a bar-inspired third-floor lounge, and a 1.2-metre molar sculpture converge to create a multi-sensory destination in partnership with Fiidaa Art.

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 21 October 2025 – Dentalis, a distinctive art-integrated clinic in Tanjong Pagar, has launched an art-led healthcare sanctuary in partnership with Fiidaa Art. The tri-level heritage shophouse on Craig Rd features rotating contemporary art exhibitions, a curated library, and spa-like sensorial design, advancing a holistic approach to care—a fusion of art, culture, and wellness. This creates a cultural destination where every detail reflects an appreciation for design, and where original works are made accessible to emerging collectors. Outside, a 1.2-metre sculptural molar installation named “Molartopia” signals the clinic’s unconventional approach to environment design.

The Spaces Between @ Dentalis x Fiidaa Art Poster

This approach—a fusion of art, culture, and wellness—is central to Dentalis. Each visit becomes an encounter with beauty: art on the walls tells a story, the Assouline Travel Library inspires curiosity, and every detail—from scent to sound—reflects an appreciation for detail and the elegance of contemporary design.

Why Now: When Environment Meets Cultural Intervention

In a city where the wellness economy is growing at a robust annual rate of 7.79%^1, and local estimates show dental anxiety affects nearly 1 in 5 adults^2, the launch addresses a significant gap in the patient environment. Research confirms that dental anxiety is a complex, multifactorial issue that significantly impacts a patient’s ability to receive necessary care^3, often leading to avoidance behavior that results in severe, long-term health complications such as undiagnosed conditions that manifest as chronic pain^5. Additionally, peer-reviewed literature supports the principle that the non-clinical dental environment itself—including elements like design, scent, and music—can influence patient anxiety levels^4. By prioritising environmental design and integrating a dynamic art gallery, Dentalis offers an approach that aims to transform apprehension into ease.

“Beauty lies in craftsmanship—and well-being in experience. Dentalis is more than a clinic; it is a cultural destination where a focus on exceptional care environment is offered amidst art, architecture, and tranquility.” — Dr. Jonathan Liu, Founder of Dentalis

Featured artists include Max Kong, whose meditative, geometric compositions evoke calm and order, and Georgina Gray, whose playful, colourful scenes bring joy and warmth. Together, they transform each visit to Dentalis into an immersive, restorative, and culturally enriching experience.

Design-Led Care Meets Cultural Accessibility

Dentalis’s art-integrated approach intentionally expands art access beyond traditional barriers.

“For most people, galleries might seem intimidating” notes Sangeeta Tibrewala, Founder of Fiidaa Art. “By placing contemporary works in everyday spaces like dental clinics, we’re normalising art as part of daily life, not a special occasion. This is how Singapore can truly become a cultural city through culture embedded in the everyday.”

With these original artworks priced from $500 onwards, pieces are positioned as accessible entry points for emerging collectors—representing a meaningful, permanent investment in personal space that holds lasting cultural value.

We are changing the very definition of a healthcare space,” explains Jennifer Choi, Marketing Director of Dentalis. “This is about inviting the ‘almost collector’ to encounter original art in a therapeutic context. Dentalis transforms that relationship—not through selling, but through simple proximity. The walk becomes a gallery stroll. The wait becomes contemplation. Clinical becomes cultural.”

Molartopia: Where Art Meets Anatomy

Before visitors even step inside, they’re greeted by Molartopia—a 1.2-metre sculptural molar installation at Dentalis’s entrance. Part public art, part anatomical homage, the oversized tooth was designed to be Tanjong Pagar’s most unexpected photo opportunity.

“We wanted to signal from the doorway: this isn’t your typical clinic,” explains Dr. Liu. “Molartopia is cheeky, confident, and completely unapologetic about celebrating dentistry as both science and spectacle.”

The installation transforms the threshold: what could be clinical apprehension becomes curiosity, then a photo, then a smile. Molartopia doesn’t just mark the entrance—it reframes the entire visit before it begins.

A Living Gallery: Art in Motion

Unlike traditional galleries or static clinic decoration, Dentalis operates as a rotating cultural platform. Every three months, Fiidaa Art curates a new collection, ensuring repeat visitors experience fresh perspectives while allowing emerging artists regular exhibition opportunities. This model transforms Dentalis from a gallery into a dynamic cultural engine—one where dentistry and art aren’t fixed experiences, but evolving conversations.

The First Exhibition: The Spaces Between @ Dentalis

Running through to 9 January 2026, The Spaces Between @ Dentalis showcases works by two Singapore-based artists, Max Kong and Georgina Gray, exploring the beauty found in contrasts—between order and play, structure and imagination, calm and colour.

Kong’s rhythmic abstractions draw attention to the negative spaces within and around his forms, while Gray’s vibrant, whimsical worlds fill those in-betweens with wonder and life. Together, their works bridge precision and playfulness, offering visitors a space of comfort, curiosity, and contemplation.

Featured Artists

Max Kong
Max Kong’s concentric square series introduces balance and stillness to the reception area—the first impression that signals Dentalis is a different kind of clinic. His clean, meditative geometry mirrors Dentalis’s philosophy of calm and contemporary design.

Artist’s Perspective:
Max’s geometric works at Dentalis are designed not as decoration but as visual anchors that foster a sense of calm and emotional safety. Through repetition, balance, and the quiet presence of negative space, his compositions invite stillness — easing the nervous system even before a patient’s appointment begins. For Max, Art in a dental clinic isn’t a luxury; it’s an intentional element of the care environment.

About the Artist:
Born in Singapore in 1974, Max Kong holds a Masters of Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts and a Fine Arts degree from RMIT University, Australia. His abstract practice explores unconventional tools and the materiality of paint, resulting in layered surfaces that challenge traditional methods.

A Platinum Award recipient of the 28th UOB Painting of the Year, Max has exhibited across Singapore, Korea, Japan, Thailand, China, and New York. His works are held in collections including the Singapore Art Museum, United Overseas Bank, and the National University of Singapore.

Georgina Gray
Georgina Gray’s vibrant, whimsical works bring warmth and joy to Dentalis’s art space. Her tropical scenes, playful black cats, and dreamlike palettes invite visitors to pause, smile, and reconnect with imagination.

Artist’s Perspective:
“I paint these joyful little worlds to remind us that life’s not all serious business. If my orang utan on a swing or playful black cat made you feel a bit calmer as you headed for your dental treatment, that’s exactly why they’re there,” explains Georgina Gray.

About the Artist:
Georgina is a contemporary artist of British-Chinese descent, currently based in Singapore. Her professional background in graphic design and advertising led her to a career in advertising as a writer before becoming a full-time artist. Her work is a celebration of wanderlust and nature, and often features quirky animals and abstract landscapes in a riot of colours. Working primarily with acrylics on canvas, her paintings evoke a sense of fun and adventure, and provide a little lighthearted escapism from everyday life.

A Space for Culture and Collaboration

The third floor at Dentalis features a bar-inspired lounge designed for media previews, trainings, private events, and brand activations. This versatile area complements the art gallery’s atmosphere, extending the Dentalis philosophy into a dynamic cultural hub for wellness, creativity, and community.

Behind the clinic, a flexible pop-up space invites unexpected collaborations—from specialty coffee concepts to experimental design showcases—with announcements forthcoming.

Interested collaborators and event partners — including brands, curators, or creators seeking a unique venue — are invited to reach out regarding third-floor private event bookings or first-floor pop-up activations.

“We’re in conversations with makers and creators who share our philosophy: that beauty and function aren’t opposites,” says Dr. Liu. “The space will evolve. The art will rotate. This is a cultural organism, not a monument.”
