National Geographic Society and Chubb Charitable Foundation Partner to Protect Critical Ecosystems Through Launch of Blue Boundaries Program

Made possible by a seven-year, multi-million-dollar commitment from the Chubb Charitable Foundation — representing the largest single grant in the Society’s 137-year history — the groundbreaking global initiative aims to preserve Earth’s vital ecosystems at the intersection of land and water

WASHINGTON, Sept. 30, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The National Geographic Society and the Chubb Charitable Foundation announced today the launch of Blue Boundaries, a landmark partnership aimed at driving transformational change through science, exploration, conservation and protection of Earth’s ecosystems at the convergence of land and water. This partnership is made possible by a seven-year, multi-million-dollar grant from the Chubb Charitable Foundation that will focus on safeguarding three of Earth’s most vital ecosystems — freshwater wetlands, coastal systems and reefs — through on-the-ground and on-the-water research, compelling storytelling and experiential education. This significant investment by Chubb, the premiere provider of risk protection and risk mitigation solutions, represents the largest single grant in the Society’s 137-year history.

The National Geographic Society and Chubb are partnering together to drive transformational change for vital ecosystems at the intersection of land and water.

Many of the world’s most biodiverse and productive ecosystems thrive in the dynamic interface where land meets water. These “Blue Boundary” environments — freshwater wetlands, coastal systems and reefs — form a web of deeply connected ecosystems that balance, depend on and sustain one another, creating stability and resilience. They provide vital habitat for nearly half of all species on Earth, including iconic wildlife like jaguars, sea otters, beavers, grizzly bears, sharks and penguins. These ecosystems support fisheries, clean water, and shoreline integrity that nourish and protect billions of people, while also playing a critical role in absorbing and storing carbon to regulate the climate.

Together, these boundary areas are foundational to the health of the planet on local, regional and global scales, providing essential services that support both people and nature.

“Protecting nature requires on-the-ground science elevated through powerful storytelling on a scale that matches the magnitude of this global moment — and Blue Boundaries is our next bold step to meet it,” said Jill Tiefenthaler, CEO of the National Geographic Society. “Our partnership with Chubb funds scientific research and conservation to deepen our understanding of these life-sustaining ecosystems and drive impact around the globe.”

“This deeply inspiring collaboration has the potential to leave a lasting legacy — positively impacting millions of people and species who depend on these ecosystems for survival and prosperity,” said Evan G. Greenberg, Chairman and CEO of Chubb Limited and Chair, Chubb Charitable Foundation. “Blue Boundaries will be a catalyst for groundbreaking research and exploration of vital ecosystems, helping us do what we do best at Chubb: protecting what matters most.”

Led by a cohort of National Geographic Explorers, the Blue Boundaries program will encompass scientific research, conservation work, education initiatives and impact storytelling to address the planet’s most pressing challenges. Working in partnership with local communities, these Explorers will help co-create innovative and scalable solutions that are informed by science and grounded in local knowledge.

Blue Boundaries will be implemented in a phased approach, with strategic overlap throughout the partnership, starting with freshwater wetlands and then moving to coastal systems, culminating in reef environments. Through this approach, the program will mirror the downstream flow of water that connects life and ecological processes, underscoring the interdependence of these environments. All three phases will be guided by core scientific principles, which focus on: understanding and supporting a rich variety of life, creating a healthy carbon balance, strengthening nature’s ability to bounce back from disruption, and ensuring people and nature can thrive together.

Through Blue Boundaries, the National Geographic Society and Chubb will illuminate and elevate the instrumental role these ecosystems play for people and the environment, shift public perception towards a deeper appreciation of nature’s intrinsic value and advance strategies essential for habitat restoration and global resilience.

More details of the Blue Boundaries partnership are available at the National Geographic Society and Chubb.

Follow the partnership’s progress through the @insidenatgeo and @chubbglobal social media accounts.

Populix Research: Understanding How The Southeast Asian Tigers Plan Their Excursion

JAKARTA, Indonesia, Sept. 30, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Nicknamed the Southeast Asian tigers, Singaporeans are known to be a “tenacious hunter”. They are disciplined, hardworking, competitive, and success-oriented. However, even a dedicated hunter requires occasional downtime. Traveling, both within the country and abroad, often comes as a way for them to relax. Through its latest research, Populix, an Indonesian tech-based research company, took a deeper look into the travel habits of Singaporean tourists, detailing their considerations, frequency of travel, and preferences.

Infographic on how Singaporeans plan their excursion
Infographic on how Singaporeans plan their excursion

Dr Timothy Astandu, CEO & Co-Founder of Populix, explained, “Behind their hardworking nature, our research finds that Singaporeans perceive traveling as a core element in their life. While it tends to be occasional rather than frequent, a majority of Singaporeans are willing to pay for a high-quality travel experience, provided it aligns with their schedules.”

Most Singaporeans occasionally travel for leisure at least once every two to six months domestically, and once or twice a year internationally via plane. End of year, between October and December, is a popular time for travel, though many also maintain flexible schedules with no fixed travel plans.

Singaporeans allocate an average budget of SGD 820 per person for short trips, with the majority spending between SGD 400-1,000. More than half prefer staying at four- or five-star hotels, while budget options or homestays remain niche. These findings indicate a readiness to pay for convenience and that comfort is a clear priority.

Many Singaporeans manage travel budgets accordingly through regular savings, while others utilize general savings or adjust their lifestyles. Promotions and flexible payment options play a smaller but notable role.

“In contrast to the solitary nature of tigers, only 5% of these Southeast Asian Tigers travel solo. More than a third shared their trip with their partner, and another third prefers family and kids as companions. This proves that traveling serves as a primary way to strengthen their bonds with family and connect with loved ones,” highlighted Astandu.

Most of them prefer a relaxing and slow-paced pastime as a way to relax and de-stress. Their destination choices are heavily influenced by attractions and activities, safety and cleanliness, also affordability. These factors lead them toward destinations that offer comfort and simplicity, such as nature escapes, shopping centres, and family-friendly destinations.

“Populix found that around 87% Singaporeans see travelling as an essential part of their life. It goes beyond relaxation. It is a central means of reward, connection, and cultural growth. Making holidays vital for well-being rather than rare luxuries,” concluded Astandu.

The survey of “Singaporean Outbound Tourism & Opportunities for Indonesia” report was conducted on 21-26 August 2025, among 500 Singaporeans. The respondents are equally split by gender and largely 26-45 years old, representing Singapore’s working population. Over half are married with children, offering family perspectives, while most are from higher-income brackets, reflecting financially independent and influential views. HKSTP x Tatler Fire Up the Hong Kong Founder’s Spirit with Steven Bartlett, host of ‘The Diary of a CEO’ Podcast

Hong Kong startups and business leaders join renowned entrepreneur on his first Asia tour to explore the mindset behind successful founders

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach Newswire – 30 September 2025 – Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and Tatler called on the innovation community to “Keep Up with Steven Bartlett”, at an exclusive breakfast dialogue with the world-renowned entrepreneur and host of the popular podcast ‘The Diary of a CEO’. The dialogue is the latest special event from HKSTP’s I&T Powerhouse initiative, bringing together global innovation icons and thought leaders like Steven Bartlett to inspire and propel success.

Steven Bartlett, the host of 'The Diary of a CEO' Podcast spoke at an exclusive breakfast dialogue with HKSTP and Tatler yesterda, as part of his Asia tour to Hong Kong.
Steven Bartlett, the host of ‘The Diary of a CEO’ Podcast spoke at an exclusive breakfast dialogue with HKSTP and Tatler yesterday, as part of his Asia tour to Hong Kong.

Bartlett’s first business visit to Hong Kong comes just as the city’s global innovation status has reached new heights. This year, the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2025 ranked “Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou” as the world’s number one innovation cluster, ahead of Tokyo and San Francisco. Proof of this progress can be seen at HKSTP, where over 50 founders from park companies have been named to Tatler’s Gen.T Leaders of Tomorrow—a next-generation list celebrating young visionaries who are redefining the future.

The “Keep Up with Steven Bartlett” event saw the famed podcast host detail the ups and downs of entrepreneurship in depth. Bartlett charted his journey from tech visionary to media trailblazer, stressing the importance of being truly committed and focused. He shared: “There isn’t just one thing that drives me. It may sound crazy, but I think the game for me is really all about striving. It’s seeing a gap between where you are today and where you want to go. For me if I don’t strive for something then I don’t have stability, I’m extremely obsessed with my work. Ultimately, my lesson for everyone is to be yourself – if you want to work an hour day or all day, every day – then just be that!

Hilda Chan, CMO of HKSTP, said: “Steven Bartlett is the ultimate example of this limitless potential we all have if we tap into our entrepreneurial spirit and desire to innovate. At HKSTP, the same entrepreneurial spirit drives our whole innovation network with 25,000 creative minds striving to keep up with innovation in an endless pursuit of what’s next. We call on all bold entrepreneurs across Hong Kong and beyond to join our I&T powerhouse of tech visionaries, innovators, and creators to propel Hong Kong’s I&T to new heights while driving change and positive impact for people, business and planet.”

Two Hong Kong founders also sat down with Bartlett to share the spark that drives their pursuit of innovation and success. Daniel Lo, Founder and CEO of GoGoChart, said: “Personal motivation is what drives me – specifically the passion to keep going. As a competitive long-distance runner, I cannot stop, I cannot give up, I hate giving up. That gives me the ability to fail and start over again and again – in fact I am now on my fourth startup, despite having the door slammed in our faces 1,000 times over!”

While Kenny Oktavius, Co-founder and CEO of PointFit Technology, said: “Coming from Indonesia, I was simply driven to build an impactful product. But after losing my grandmother to post-surgery complication due to late diagnosis, it hit me deeply as it was really preventable. Realising that no one was addressing this gap, I became determined to build PointFit. To bring real-time biomarkers monitoring into everyday wearables and help alert people to critical health changes before it’s too late.”

The special event played host to a mix of young tech entrepreneurs and Asia’s business elite, as Bartlett shared his views on business and life on his first-ever tour of Asia. One of the world’s most popular podcasts, the ‘The Diary of a CEO’ features over 12 million subscribers, while Bartlett’s recent book ‘The Diary of A CEO: The 33 Laws for Business & Life’ was a Sunday Times Number 1 bestseller and has been translated into 35 languages, becoming the fastest selling book of all time in its market.

The complete, corrected release follows:

Shailene Woodley joins forces with Mars and Calm to celebrate how pet adoption can change two lives

  • Working with actor and rescue cat mom – Shailene Woodley – Mars and Calm are shining a light on the positive impact of pets on mental wellbeing, and how adopting a pet can change two lives – the pet’s and pet owner’s.
  • A recent global survey commissioned by Mars and Calm found a huge 83% of pet owners say their pet has improved their mental wellbeing.1
  • With an estimated 12 million dogs and 4 million cats living in shelters across the globe waiting to meet their forever family, Mars, Calm and Shailene are coming together to promote pet adoption and the power of the human animal bond ahead of the Mars Global Adoption Weekend (October 3–5, 2025).

BRUSSELS, Sept. 30, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Mars, a leading pet care company behind brands pets and pet owners love including ROYAL CANIN®, WHISKAS®, CESAR®, BANFIELD™, BLUEPEARL™, VCA™ and ANTECH®, is teaming up with award-winning actor Shailene Woodley (“Motor City”, “Paradise”, “Big Little Lies”) and leading mental health company Calm to shine a light on the power of pets for mental wellbeing and to encourage adoption as a path to pet ownership.

Shailene Woodley partners with Mars and Calm to celebrate the positive impact of pets on mental wellbeing and how pet adoption can change two lives.
Shailene Woodley partners with Mars and Calm to celebrate the positive impact of pets on mental wellbeing and how pet adoption can change two lives.

Globally, there are around 16 million dogs and cats in shelters waiting to find a home.2 In an effort to help pets in shelters find loving homes, Mars is hosting its second annual Global Adoption Weekend. For those who open their homes to pets, the rewards are huge. The bond with a pet has a measurable, positive impact on mental wellbeing. A recent global survey commissioned by Mars and Calm found a huge 83% of pet owners say their pet has improved their mental wellbeing, and 73% say their pet encourages them to stop overthinking or worrying.1

Shailene Woodley said: “My rescue cats transformed my world. They bring me peace when I’m overwhelmed with a busy filming schedule, and every day, they remind me to breathe, slow down and live in the moment. I want more people to see that adoption isn’t just an act of compassion for an animal; it can also be an act of care for yourself. In rescuing Bear and Pharrah, they have changed my life as much as I have changed theirs.”

Spending time with pets has also been found to increase levels of oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin, collectively known as the ‘happy hormones’ because they promote a sense of wellbeing and contentment.3 Plus, the benefits go both ways as studies have found that in three months of adoption, dogs show signs of increased confidence and cats show signs of bonding and calmness.4

“Our increased understanding of the human animal bond and how it can impact mental wellbeing highlights the unique relationship between people and their pets,” Dr. Alea Harrison, DVM; Chief Medical Officer at Banfield, commented. “The first days with a new pet are key to learning about each other. Strong bonds are built slowly, through patience, consistency, and care – and when they take root, they can bring joy, companionship and fulfilment.”

During the Global Adoption Weekend Mars will be supporting prospective pet owners through partnerships with shelters, helping change two lives by bringing more pets and people together across more than 20 countries, incl. U.S., U.K., Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, India, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland, The Philippines, Poland, Romania, Thailand, and Ukraine.

Tiffany Lacey, Executive Director of Animal Haven, one of the shelters that are part of the Global Adoption Weekend in the U.S., said: “With millions of pets waiting for their forever home, adoption is a tangible way to make a lasting difference – and Mars Global Adoption Weekend is the perfect time to visit your local shelter. Every adoption is proof that compassion changes lives, giving pets a loving home and enriching the wellbeing of the people who welcome them.”

Mars will be promoting adoption through a range of initiatives from financial contributions to shelters, local events and associate volunteering. This includes:

  • In the U.S., Mars will cover more than $185,000 in cat and dog adoption fees at partner shelters in 21 cities during October 3-5. On top of that, the PEDIGREE Foundation will cover an additional $25,000 in dog adoption fees.
  • In Poland, Mars will support new pet owners by providing them with a 6-month supply of pet food for cats and dogs adopted from partner shelters.
  • In The Philippines, Mars will donate 33,000 meals for pets in partner shelters, making a positive impact for pets in need across the community.
  • During the month of October, Mars and Calm are also supporting adoptive pet owners as they settle into pet ownership by providing them with 3 months of free Calm membership.

As part of the campaign, Shailene has recorded a Sleep Story, exclusively available on Calm, inspired by her own experience welcoming pets into her life and other amazing stories of four-legged friends changing the lives of those around them. The Sleep Story, Finding Four-Legged Friends, is part of the first-ever pet-inspired content collection on Calm created in collaboration with Mars, and it also features free-to-access content (incl. meditations, breathing exercise, soundscapes and more), to help pet owners find calm and rest.
