Capgemini: Organizations report a four-fold increase in the deployment of generative AI since 2023

  • The vast majority (80%) have increased their year-on-year investment in generative AI
  • Three quarters agree it is helping drive revenue and innovation
  • Almost all organizations (97%) allow employees to use generative AI in some capacity

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 29 July 2024 – Organizations are rapidly embracing generative AI, spurred by an uptick in investment and the value of this transformative technology. It has permeated across sectors and various functions within organizations, driving a shift in operations and business models. That’s according to the Capgemini Research Institute’s latest report, “Harnessing the value of generative AI 2nd edition: Use cases across sectors,” which shows the adoption curve has increased with utilization of use cases across the spectrum. For all organizations, there has been a notable rise, with nearly one quarter currently integrating generative AI into some of their locations or functions, an increase from 6% in 2023.

Early adopters have already begun reaping benefits, ranging from improved operational efficiency to enhanced customer experience and increased sales. For example, on average, organizations realized a 6.7% improvement in customer engagement and satisfaction over the past year in the areas in which the technology has been piloted or deployed.

“Generative AI is starting to transform business and organizations are already seeing concrete growth in revenue, whilst also accelerating innovation. As a result, rather than solely focusing on cost optimization, businesses are actively exploring new avenues to leverage its capabilities and drive value creation,” comments Pascal Brier, Chief Innovation Officer at Capgemini and Member of the Group Executive Committee. “As investment increases, the rise of more complex, autonomous AI systems signals a new era of generative AI that could impact the way companies operate. To propel their AI journeys forward, organizations should establish strong data foundations with clear processes to manage siloed data and enable data integration across functions. Trust, transparency, and accountability will continue to play a central role whilst embracing this next frontier of AI that has the potential to deliver significant value over time.”

AI chatbots are evolving to multi-agent systems [1] that are set to accelerate value creation

Almost three quarters of organizations (74%) agree that generative AI is helping them drive revenue and innovation. As AI technology progresses, it will transition from the role of supportive tool to that of independent agent with increased execution capability, allowing organizations to reimagine the way they do business and create greater value from their AI investments. This potential for value creation has contributed to the emergence of multi-agent systems – a quickly evolving technology with potential to drive increased innovation. The report indicates high levels of trust in AI agents for specific tasks such as generating professional emails, coding, and data analysis. However, it also reveals that leaders are conscious of the need to maintain this trust and ethical transparency in its development and deployment.

Increase in generative AI adoption across all domains includes the use of public tools

The acceleration of generative AI over the past 12 months is not limited to a business level, as recent technological developments have made public tools more accessible to non-experts. As a result, while there has been an increase in its adoption, only 3% of organizations have imposed a ban on the use of public generative AI tools in the workplace. Almost all organizations (97%) allow employees to use generative AI in some capacity, with over half enforcing specific guidelines for employees to follow.

Faced with the fast-paced uptake of generative AI, the report notes that organizations should proceed with a sense of responsibility. Clear guardrails to validate decisions made by multi-agent systems are essential to ensure transparency and accountability in operations and to mitigate the future risks that public tools may pose to their organization.

Methodology
The Capgemini Research Institute surveyed 1,100 executives employed at organizations with more than $1 billion in annual revenue across 14 countries including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, India, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, the UK, and the US. Organizations operate across 11 sectors; nearly all (96%) of these organizations have started to explore generative AI. The global survey took place in May and June 2024. Executives surveyed are at director-level and above and represent diverse functions.

[1] Multi-agent systems are defined as technology designed to function independently, plan, reflect, pursue higher-level goals, and execute complex workflows with minimal or limited direct human oversight. Such systems exhibit characteristics traditionally found exclusively in human operators, including decision-making, planning, and adapting execution techniques based on inputs, predefined goals, and environmental considerations.

SonicWall Report Details Exponential Increase in Overall Cyberattacks; Reveals Potential Revenue Risk for Businesses

  • At least 12.6% of an organisation’s annual revenues were at risk to cyber threats
  • Sensors detected 125% attack hours – 10 attack hours in an 8-hour workday
  • Businesses endured on average 1,104 hours of critical attacks during a span of 880 working hours; protected from a potential of 46 days of downtime
  • Malware trended up 30% YoY, including a massive 92% spike in May alone
  • Ransomware intensifies in North America (+15%) and explodes in LATAM (+51%)
  • In Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ), YoY comparison saw malware attacks and IoT attacks increased by 6% and 72% respectively, while cryptojacking decreased by 28%
  • IoT attacks (+107%) and encrypted threats (+92%) continue to climb globally
  • 83% of customer-received alerts seen by our managed services team are related to cloud apps and compromised credentials
  • SonicWall identified 78,923 ‘never-before-seen’ malware variants – 526 a day

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach Newswire – 29 July 2024 – SonicWall today released the 2024 SonicWall Mid-Year Cyber Threat Report, researched and compiled by SonicWall Capture Labs, which unveils yet another rise in overall attacks, after seeing an 11% increase observed in 2023. The report details the evolving threat landscape over the first five months of this year, highlighting the persistent, relentless and escalating nature of cyber threats globally.

This report has been built with SonicWall’s partners in mind, and much like SonicWall itself, has undergone a significant transformation. The report has evolved in how it measures critical cyberthreat data to include time as a factor. It also highlights the latest trends that are impacting our partners and the customers they serve, and for the first time the report ties attacks to tangible business impact, including potential revenue risk.

“As threat actors continue to add more efficient and sophisticated tactics, we knew the threat report had to evolve to suit our partners’ and customers’ needs,” said SonicWall President and CEO Bob VanKirk. “The report is current and includes timely trends and provides our partners, MSPs, MSSPs and customers with actionable intelligence to help them create and implement strategies to help their customers combat these threats whether new or old.”

“Organisations today confront a dynamic threat landscape where threat actors continually innovate to outpace enterprise defenses,” emphasised Debasish Mukherjee, Vice President, Regional Sales, Asia Pacific Japan at SonicWall. “With cyber risks dominating headlines and boardroom discussions globally, the 2024 SonicWall Mid-Year Cyber Threat Report solidifies our position as a trusted authority, bolstering our capacity to deliver robust security solutions to our valued customers.”

Rising Attacks and Revenue Protected

SonicWall intelligence found that on average, companies were under critical attack – the type of attack most likely to deplete business resources – for 1,104 hours out of 880 working hours. That means that customers were shielded from a potential 46 days of business downtime in just the first five months of 2024, protecting 12.6% of total revenues and defending against potentially devastating intrusions.

“The data and examples found in the report provide real life examples of how crafty and swift malicious actors operate, underscoring that traditional cybersecurity defenses often prove to be the most reliable,” said SonicWall Executive Director of Threat Research Douglas McKee. “Data is not just a resource; it’s our frontline defense against cybercrime, revealing critical insights that inform allocation of resources and enable targeted and proactive cybersecurity measures.”

The 2024 SonicWall Mid-Year Cyber Threat Report provides insight on a range of threats, including:

  • Malware – Total global malware volume rose 30% in the first half of 2024, seeing a massive 92% increase in May alone, while APJ saw a YoY increase in malware attacks of 6%.
  • Ransomware – Ransomware is trending up with an increase of +15% in NOAM and a resounding +51% in LATAM, but EMEA is pulling the global numbers down, logging a -49% decrease.
  • IoT Malware IoT attacks rose by 107%, with affected devices averaging 52.8 hours under attack. Additionally, 15% of all malware now uses software packing as its main MITRE TTP. Notably in APJ, IoT attacks increased by 72%.
  • Cryptojacking – After a record-breaking year, Cryptojacking dropped 60%. Most of the globe saw a decrease, with the exception of India, which saw a staggering 409% increase.

“The threat landscape is completely overwhelming for organisations and the teams who defend them,” said SonicWall Partner and Fornida COO Steven Huang. “Most cybersecurity breaches include some degree of human error. Ultimately, there are two ways to battle this; reducing opportunity and educating users. The fewer opportunities there are for an error, the less users will be tested. And the more knowledge they have, the less likely they are to make a mistake even when they face an opportunity to do so.”

Patented RTDMI Discovered ‘Never-Before-Seen’ Malware Variants

SonicWall’s patented Real-Time Deep Memory InspectionTM (RTDMITM) technology identified a total of 78,923 never-before-seen malware variants in the first five months of 2024. The threat landscape remains complex, with over 500 strains of new variants discovered each day.
