On April 3rd, volunteers gathered to support indigenous communities in Hualien’s Xiulin Township – one of the areas hardest hit by last year’s devastating 0403 earthquake. The date, which coincided with Children’s Day and the disaster’s first anniversary, added meaning to the day’s service.

Students and teachers from Tongxin Waldorf Experimental School in Taipei joined local businesses including Xuyue Steel Co., Ltd. (Chairman Wu Jun-Liang, GM Lin Ya-Fang), Weijie Design Co., Ltd. (Wang Cong-Sheng), and Youray Trading Co., Ltd. (Liu Yi-Cheng), along with children from the Presbyterian Church’s Children’s Home, led by Director Du Zhen-Xi. Volunteers cleaned and painted homes in remote villages, transforming them with colorful murals and handprints signifying hope and renewal.

“The true meaning of this project lies in everyone coming together to support those in need within our communities.,” said Chairman Huang Zhen-Hui of the Life Enlightenment Education Foundation. “I sincerely thank all the participating companies and volunteers, as well as the P.O.P. students whose continued encouragement and support empower them to give back meaningfully to society.”

The experience left a lasting impression on many students, who said spending Children’s Day helping others gave the holiday a more profound significance. Many expressed their hopes to continue serving their communities as they grow.

“Giving back is our duty. Working alongside the youth reminded me of my younger days. Our work in public service will continue,” shared Chairman Wu Jun-Liang of Xuyue Steel Co., Ltd.

“It’s heartwarming to see adults and children overcome barriers and work together. We’re honored to support this community,” added donor Lu Xiu-Jin.

Teacher Tsai Meng-Hung, who accompanied the student volunteers, remarked, “This project helps students see that many people are working hard to improve the world. We hope they feel their efforts contribute to that mission.”

Beyond the service project, the Life Enlightenment Foundation donated essential household goods to the Presbyterian Church’s Children’s Home and local needy families. Past charitable efforts include rebuilding post-earthquake kitchens and classrooms, and a “100 Pairs of Shoes” donation drive for eight youth shelters.

Since its founding in 1990, P.O.P. has continued to provide personal-growth programs that help individuals discover their potential and achieve life goals. Through the charitable work of the Enlightenment Education Foundation, P.O.P. remains committed to creating meaningful opportunities for disadvantaged children and promoting a spirit of service.

The AKG and Ca-AKG of Xin Tianhe have passed the US Self-GRAS certification

SHENZHEN, China, Jan. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — On January 7, 2026, the AKG and Ca-AKG of Xin Tianhe Biotechnology successfully completed the Self-GRAS scientific evaluation in accordance with the US FDA GRAS standards and were approved and became the first domestic fermentation products that obtain the GRAS authoritative certification, and obtained the qualification for entering the US market, marking a crucial step to enter the global nutrition and health market.

Core Breakthrough: The First Domestic Certification of Fermentation Method is Officially Implemented

The alpha-ketoglutaric acid known as AKG is the “core gear” of the tricarboxylic acid cycle, and is crucial for the body’s energy metabolism and has been listed in the US “old dietary ingredients”. It can be legally used as a dietary raw material. Meanwhile, unlike traditional synthetic products (used only for food flavoring), Xin Tianhe adopts the biological fermentation process, and the product can be directly used as a “food raw material”, highlighting its core advantages.

Technological Excellence: Green Processes Build the Quality Barrier

Compared to traditional methods, CynbioX™AKG adopts the full-cell catalytic method, using internationally recognized food-grade Corynebacterium glutamicum as the carrier. Through the dual-enzyme expression system to ensure the green and safe quality of the product from the source, and effectively reducing impurities while improving purity.

As a pioneer in the global innovative application of AKG, Xin Tianhe takes innovation technology and green manufacturing as its core competitiveness. Relying on the R&D technical strength of its parent company, it has built an internationally advanced synthetic biology technology platform, and has successively obtained KOSHER, FSSC 22000, HALAL, etc., and its technology and quality control levels are in line with international standards. At the same time, the company conducts in-depth research on domestic and foreign literature and has verified the efficacy of AKG in anti-aging, muscle building, and improving athletic performance through multi-dimensional experiments on mice. Some of the results have been published in international authoritative SCI journals, providing scientific support for product innovation and development.

Demonstrate international standards and accelerate global market expansion

The successful acquisition of the US Self-GRAS certification not only demonstrates the company’s international strength in product research and development and quality control, but also lays a solid foundation to further expand the global nutrition and health market, marking a crucial step in the international strategic layout. Currently, the demand for AKG is surging in anti-aging, beauty, sports nutrition, and weight management. In the future, relying on its certification advantages and technological accumulation, Xin Tianhe is expected to seize the initiative in the global AKG market competition and continuously promote innovative development in nutrition and health field.

Coda and Unity to enable out-of-app monetization for game developers globally

SINGAPORE, Jan. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Coda, a global leader in digital content monetization, today announced that it is integrating Unity‘s In‑App Purchasing (IAP) SDK with Coda’s global web store platforms. This collaboration offers developers a single place to manage and optimize their entire digital catalog across mobile, web, and PC – directly through Unity’s existing IAP workflow.

With just a few lines of code, developers can launch secure, branded web stores powered by Coda – offering players more ways to purchase securely while improving their margins.

The integration is powered by Coda’s Merchant of Record (MoR) solution, which is already trusted by leading publishers and fast-growing studios worldwide. As the legal seller in each market, Coda manages payments, fraud prevention, tax remittance, invoicing, and compliance across more than 70 markets and over 400 payment methods. This gives developers more time to focus on the game and the player experience.

“As the games industry moves beyond closed ecosystems, developers of every size want more flexibility and control over how they grow,” said Shane Happach, CEO of Coda. “Our integration with Unity’s IAP SDK gives creators more choice in how they launch and operate their own stores, wherever their players are, minus the complexity of managing global payments or compliance. This reflects Coda’s commitment to democratizing game development and helping every studio, large or small, succeed on their own terms.”

As web-based purchasing becomes a more practical part of developers’ business mix, interest in direct-to-consumer web stores continues to grow. Today, these channels already account for roughly 26% of mobile gaming revenue in East and Southeast Asia, according to research from Niko Partners and Coda.

First-party web stores give developers greater control over pricing, promotions, and player communication, but introduce operational complexity across payments, compliance, fraud, and support. Coda removes these barriers with a scalable payments and risk platform, integrated directly into Unity’s workflow.

Coda’s integration with Unity’s IAP sets a new D2C standard by bringing out-of-app monetization into developers’ existing workflows, removing operational complexity, and making it easier to run web stores at a global scale.

Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Launches Next Phase of International Expansion with New Bangkok Opening and Appointment of Global Brand Ambassador

Accelerated overseas strategy as an integral part of brand transformation

HONG KONG/BANGKOK – EQS Newswire – 16 January 2026 – Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited (“Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group”, the “Group” or the “Company”; SEHK stock code: 1929), the global Chinese luxury group built on a nearly-century old legacy of trust and innovation, announces the opening of a key strategic store in Bangkok, Thailand, within the iconic Siam Paragon, as well as the appointment of acclaimed Chinese actor Yang Yang as its Global Brand Ambassador. These initiatives mark significant milestones in the Group’s brand transformation journey as it redefines global luxury through Chinese craftmanship and artistry.

Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Launches Next Phase of International Expansion with New Bangkok Opening

The Group, which operates over 5,000 stores globally with a market capitalisation of approximately HK$122 billion, equivalent to US$16 billion, (as of 31 December 2025), is strengthening its presence in luxury destinations across international markets as part of its brand transformation. The new store at a Southeast Asian luxury retail landmark showcases Chow Tai Fook Jewellery’s blend of modern sophistication with the richness imbued by cultural heritage.

In addition, the appointment of Global Brand Ambassador Yang Yang reflects the commitment to engaging new audiences and deepening emotional resonance with overseas consumers. Yang Yang, a renowned globally recognised Chinese actor, is set to strengthen the brand’s presence in key international markets, positioning it as a modern, elegant embodiment of Chinese luxury on the world stage.

A New Expression of Heritage and Modern Luxury

The new Siam Paragon store features the brand’s iconic “Chow Tai Fook Timeless Red” throughout. The space celebrates the beauty of Chinese craftsmanship and artistry with the use of refined materials and thoughtful lighting that create a warm, gallery-like ambience. To build connections and emotional resonance, the Group is introducing a selection of Thai-exclusive pieces that honour local culture.

“As we advance our dynamic brand transformation journey, curating exceptional retail experiences in international markets is pivotal in Chow Tai Fook Jewellery’s overseas expansion strategy. This expansion is part of our ambition to establish Chow Tai Fook Jewellery as a leading force in global luxury, while reinforcing our legacy of innovation, excellence, and cultural resonance,” said Ms Sonia Cheng, Vice-chairman of Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group.

She further remarked: “Another key aspect of our strategic vision is the appointment of Yang Yang as our Global Brand Ambassador. Through this alliance, we will cultivate a refined and contemporary identity for a Chinese luxury brand on the world stage.”

Accelerating Global Reach to Redefine Luxury Across Borders

Chow Tai Fook Jewellery’s international business expansion is guided by a two-pronged approach: revitalising key existing markets and expanding into high-potential new territories for sustainable growth. With around 60 points of sales across international markets in 1HFY2026 (April to September 2025), the Group’s retail sales in Other Markets segment (including China duty-free) grew nearly 17% year-on-year.

The opening of the Siam Paragon store follows the debut of the Group’s first newly designed store in Southeast Asia, which opened at Singapore Changi Airport in November 2025. Building on this momentum, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery is set to further expand its international retail network, with plans to open its first store in Australia and an additional store in Canada by the end of June 2026. The Group also intends to expand into the Middle East market within two years.

Redefining Global Luxury Through Chinese Artistry

In celebration of its 95th anniversary, the Group embarked on a brand transformation journey in 2024 to redefine global luxury. By blending heritage with contemporary iconic designs, the Group showcases the beauty of China to the world through exquisite jewellery that honours tradition while embracing modern elegance.

Chow Tai Fook Jewellery is the first Chinese jewellery brand to appoint a Creative Director with international perspectives and exposure, underscoring its commitment to innovative design and narrative-driven branding. Led by Creative Director of High Jewellery, Nicholas Lieou, the Group introduced its signature collections, including the CTF Rouge and CTF Joie Collections.

Harnessing the Power of Sports: Orange Lion Sports Leads the Way in Driving the Emerging Trend of “Racecation”

SANYA, China, Jan. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Orange Lion Sports (formerly Alibaba Sports), a global sports event operator, is redefining how major athletic competitions and tourism converge through the coordinated integration of digital platforms and consumer services. The recent 2025 Hainan (Sanya) Marathon, supported by the company, showcased an “event-as-journey” experience that delivered a professionally operated, high-quality racing platform while supporting measurable economic growth for the host city. The marathon saw hotel occupancy in Sanya soar to 92%, with a notable 35% surge in spending at local businesses along the race route, establishing a promising blueprint for the scalable “racecation” model.

“We are committed to creating lasting value for athletes and sports enthusiasts,” said Yang Yong, General Manager of Events and Commercialization at event partner Orange Lion Sports. “We activated resources across the Alibaba ecosystem, including Taobao, Fliggy, Alibaba Health, Ant Chain, and Amap, to extend engagement beyond race day. This approach attracted runners from across Hainan, other parts of China, and overseas, while encouraging additional event-related spending.”

The provincial tourism and sports department has introduced funding incentives for 2026 sports events to attract national and international competitions. Orange Lion Sports has demonstrated how large-scale events can generate sustained economic activity and benefit local businesses by digitally integrating dining, lodging, transportation, entertainment, and shopping. In partnership with Taobao, the company launched a “Winter Warm-up Festival” that distributed tailored promotional vouchers and offers ahead of the event, designed to connect race participation with consumer engagement by introducing regional culinary specialties such as fermented vinegar hot pot and traditional Li-Miao cuisine to runners across China.

The economic benefits were sustained beyond the race period. According to Fliggy data, hotel bookings in Sanya began rising steadily from late October 2025, when event promotions launched, and remained strong throughout the marathon period. The momentum extended beyond the race, coinciding with the New Year holiday travel period. Data from the Sanya tourism bureau shows that during the 2026 New Year holiday, the city welcomed 650,800 visitor arrivals, with tourism revenue of 1.299 billion yuan (approx. US$186 million) generated, illustrating the role of the “racecation” model in supporting tourism demand.

In the future, Orange Lion Sports will harness AI technology to enhance sports events and promote fitness for all, in line with their assertion at CES in 2017: AI is the future of sports development.

World Bank Backs Laos in Boosting Education, Health Worker Performance

This photo is used for representational purpose only. (Photo: Bequal Laos)

On 16 January, the World Bank (WB) approved a new project aimed at strengthening the performance of primary education and health workers in Laos by improving staff management systems and professional training.

The USD 35 million project, titled Improving Frontline Workers Performance in Education and Health, will run for six years and is designed to address long-standing human capital challenges in the country. The initiative will support continuous professional development for primary school teachers through classroom observation, learning assessments, and updated training programs.

In the health sector, the project will expand health worker registration and licensing systems while strengthening both pre-service and in-service training. Measures will also be introduced across both sectors to attract and retain qualified professionals in rural and underserved areas, where staffing shortages remain most severe.

WB country manager for Laos, Khwima Nthara, noted that while Laos faces serious education and health challenges, the government has demonstrated strong commitment by mobilizing resources to support frontline teachers and health workers serving local communities.

Public spending on education and health has declined in recent years, falling from 4.9 percent of gross domestic product in 2013 to an estimated 2.3 percent in 2023. Surveys have also indicated a partial reversal of earlier gains in child nutrition, alongside persistent workforce shortages in schools and health facilities nationwide.

These pressures are further intensified by geographic disparities, with rural and high-poverty areas experiencing more acute shortages of teachers and medical staff compared to urban centers.

Under the project, the performance of frontline workers will be measured and strengthened through enhanced training, improved management practices, and more balanced workforce distribution. In primary education, activities include upgrading teacher training colleges with smart classrooms, supporting an existing two-year continuous bachelor’s degree program, and expanding access to online professional development.

To strengthen health services, the project will deliver targeted training and staff retention packages for district hospitals and health centers across eight provinces. It will also reinforce national frameworks for health workforce recruitment, deployment, and personnel management to support long-term sustainability.
