Okta Advances Customer Identity with Auth0 and New Okta Features

New capabilities for customer identity and access management drive increased business agility, better security outcomes, and more frictionless user experiences across the enterprise

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 2 November 2021 – Okta, Inc. (NASDAQ: OKTA), the leading independent identity provider, announced continued growth and advancements in both Okta’s and Auth0’s Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) offerings at the company’s annual Showcase event. Marking the first joint event since the Auth0 acquisition closed in May, the team shared their vision to jointly grow the CIAM market, and launch new capabilities from Okta’s Customer Identity products, including Device Authorization Grant, Branding, and Custom Administrator Roles. A replay of the event, hosted at the company headquarters in San Francisco, can be viewed at okta.com/showcase.

The development time and continuous optimization required to deliver safe and superior digital experiences across devices and applications is increasingly burdensome and complex for companies in today’s marketplaces. It requires customization per application, specific coding, and additional security measures to protect against the evolving threat environment. The risk of security and deterioration of the end user experience is a key challenge. Identity is the common foundation on which organizations can build both secure and frictionless experiences. A new era of identity-first security has emerged as a result and is driving demand for CIAM. Early adopters of CIAM now have a distinct competitive edge.

Okta’s acquisition and continued investment in Auth0 is at the center of this growing demand and massive $30 billion market opportunity for CIAM. Okta announced its plan to operate as one combined company, with two CIAM product units across both Okta and Auth0, providing customers with more choice in how they want to deploy CIAM.

Okta and Auth0 enable organizations to deploy digital customer-facing experiences that overlay security, governance, privacy, and engagement policies throughout a customer journey, without making tradeoffs to usability. The growth of each platform and the benefits they bring to varied use cases is why Okta will continue to invest in both.

Continued investment in Okta’s CIAM offering includes the release of key new capabilities, including:

●        Device Authorization Grant: Simplify and secure the registration and access for end users across input-constrained, shared, and IoT devices (like Smart TV apps, smart speakers, kiosks, and terminals), improving user-experience, reducing abandoned registrations, and increasing security for users regardless of interface.

●     Branding: Communicate with confidence and go live faster with consistent branding across login, error pages, and email templates without wasting hours of developer time. Customers can deploy their brand templates without adding custom code, ultimately providing ease of implementation.

●        Custom Administrator Roles: Spend less time on the governance of who has access to what and more time focusing on the challenges that will drive businesses forward. Enable Super Admins to follow the principle of least privilege by creating granular roles for admins to manage their users, groups, and applications. Easily apply a flexible approach to administration that fits each unique organization structure, ensuring each admin has the right level of access they require.

Okta’s Customer Identity platform currently serves leading enterprises including Crate & Barrel, Albertsons Companies, and JetBlue.

Verisk is a leading data analytics provider serving customers in insurance, energy and specialized markets, and financial services,” said Atul Bahl, Vice President of Cloud Infrastructure, Verisk Analytics. “As a data-focused organization, security is of the utmost importance to us. Okta’s Custom Administrator Roles allow us to follow the principle of least privilege and only grant admins access to the tasks they need to perform across our many business units. We save time for our internal teams and ensure the best-in-class security of our customer applications.”

“Identity sits at the core of all digital experiences and provides the security, agility, and usability needed to quickly adapt to any current or future challenge,” said Todd McKinnon, CEO and co-founder, Okta. “Together, Okta and Auth0 deliver the most comprehensive approach to customer identity. We are investing in and supporting both platforms, and we are proud to empower our customers to choose with confidence.”

Availability

Okta’s new features, including Device Authorization Grant, Branding, and Custom Administrator Roles, are all available today in early access. Customers can opt-in to use all three new capabilities in the Okta Admin Dashboard. Device Authorization Grant and Branding will be generally available in Q4 2021 and Custom Administrator Roles will be generally available in Q2 2022.

Higher education leaders discuss building resilient universities in Asia at QS APPLE Conference

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach – 2 November 2021 – Distinguished higher education leaders in the Asia-Pacific acknowledged at the Quacquarelli Symonds Asia-Pacific Professional Leaders in Education (QS APPLE) 2021 Conference that the strategic direction of transdisciplinary education and research is fundamental to the development of higher education in the region, and that universities need to become more resilient to cope with technological advancements and uncertainties in the post-pandemic era.

The Presidents Panel of the QS APPLE 2021 Conference featured higher education leaders in the region including (clockwise from top left) Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU; Professor Lily Kong, President of the Singapore Management University; Professor Joonki Paik, Provost and Executive Vice President of Research of the Chung-Ang University in Korea; Professor Yang Bin, Vice President and Provost of Tsinghua University in mainland China; and Professor T.G. Sitharam, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati as panelists; and Mr Anton John Crace, Editor & Programme Designer of QS, as the moderator.

The sector leaders, who joined the Presidents Panel with the theme “Building resilient universities for tomorrow: An Asian perspective” yesterday (1 November) at the QS APPLE 2021 Conference, also agreed that artificial intelligence (AI) will empower both educators and students to cope with future education and workforce trends.

The QS APPLE 2021 Conference, hosted by Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and co-hosted by Prince of Songkla University in Thailand, is being held virtually from 1 to 3 November with the theme “Future Rebalance: Emerging trends and workforce in the Asia Pacific”. The conference features more than 80 distinguished speakers from world-leading universities and organisations, and the programme includes keynote speeches, debates, panel discussions and case studies that reflect the opportunities and trends in education in the Asia-Pacific region.

In his opening remarks at the conference, Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, pointed out that higher education is in the midst of an exciting transformation brought about not only by the pandemic, but also the incredible advances happening in AI and the technology sector. He said that in this fast-evolving world, we need to race against time: “Education is the key to adapting to new technologies, and universities will play a key role in closing an imminent skills gap by enabling their students to acquire transferable competencies alongside technological skills.

“Universities must sow the seeds of systemic change to nurture cultures that emphasise care, collaboration and community engagement if we are to reap the harvest of transdisciplinary research – a rich yield where scientific rigour, societal impact and wider engagement collide,” he said.

Ben Sowter, Senior Vice President of QS Intelligence Unit, said: “As a consequence of recent challenges faced, and largely adapted to, by universities, the cat is truly out of the bag – universities can change and they can do it fast. On what other challenges should they next focus their collective might? The primary purpose of this conference is not merely to sustain the conversation, but to evoke action. Beyond action universities might take to reinforce their own resilience as institutions, to what they can do to augment ours as a species.”

The Conference’s Presidents Panel featured higher education leaders in the region, including Professor Alexander Wai of HKBU; Professor Lily Kong, President of the Singapore Management University; Professor Joonki Paik, Provost and Executive Vice-President of Research of the Chung-Ang University in Korea; Professor Yang Bin, Vice-President and Provost of Tsinghua University in mainland China; and Professor T.G. Sitharam, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, as panellists.

The panellists shared their visions and experience on how we can build resilient universities in the Asia-Pacific region that can help students flourish in the face of an uncertain future that has been brought about by recent rapid technological advancements and the COVID-19 pandemic. The importance of both natural and social sciences, as seen in transdisciplinary research in terms of addressing grand global challenges, was also ascertained.

“At HKBU, we foster transdisciplinary research with a focus on three areas. The first one is wellness, and it includes health, food, drug discovery and Chinese medicine. Another area is art-tech, which embraces visualisation technologies for traditional art history and culture. All these areas are powered by technologies including AI and big data, which is our third area of focus. We strongly believe that these are the areas which will build students’ resilience and prepare them for an unknown future,” said Professor Wai.

The Panel discussion also touched on their experience of integrating AI into education programmes, strengthening the AI capabilities of students for the future world of work, and ways to boost internal administrative efficiencies.

Lack of Time Found To Be the Main Roadblock in Employee Upskilling

  • The top challenge employees face when participating in training programmes is the lack of time where they are “too busy with work” (49%) and being “unwilling to attend courses outside of work hours” (34%). Employers also cite “attending courses as disruptive to day-to-day operations” (58%) as the main obstacle when implementing training programmes for their employees.
  • In order to increase participation in training programmes, employees desire more support from their employers through “paid leave hours for training” (61%), “providing a temporary cover at work” (52%) and “short refresher courses” (43%).
  • Employers believe that the top three methods to ensure their employees are equipped with the necessary skills are through “more flexible arrangements for employees to work and learn” (43%), the “cultivation of a self-driven learning culture” (39%), and the “introduction of more training methods” (39%).

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 2 November 2021 – The pandemic has placed a heightened emphasis on the need for developing the skills and competencies of the workforce, in order for companies to emerge stronger and more resilient. Yet while many companies recognise the need for enhanced workforce learning programmes, NTUC LearningHub (NTUC LHUB)’s recent Workforce Learning in Workplace Transformation (WLWT) report[1] unveiled that more must be done to encourage employees to upskill, in order to accelerate workplace transformation in the endemic world. In particular, the report uncovered that time constraints form a consequential barrier to employee participation in training programmes.

Employees Desire More Support From Their Companies

According to the report, 88% of employees revealed that their companies and line managers are supportive of their participation in training programmes. Yet the inability to find colleagues to cover the workload while employees are away for training is a real challenge faced by many. In fact, 32% voiced that more support could be provided to encourage employee participation in training programmes, especially in the form of working arrangements to cover work while one is away on course. This includes paid leave hours or days (61%), more support from supervisors or line managers to temporarily cover work (52%), or offering short refresher courses (43%).

Employers (58%) also voiced their sentiments towards supporting employees on their learning and development (L&D) journey, addressing the concern that attending courses might be disruptive to business operations. However, it is imperative for employers to prioritise the upskilling of their employees and recognise that L&D is an indelible component towards accelerating business and workplace transformation, especially in the current situation. Employers surveyed cited that in order to ensure their workforce is  equipped with the necessary skills, the shift needs to be conducted from the top, through more flexible arrangements for employees to work and learn (43%), cultivating a self-driven learning culture (39%), and introducing more training methods (39%).

Commenting on the findings, NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Chee Hong Tat said, “Employers and workers want greater flexibility in when, where and how they receive training.  Our experience during the pandemic shows that this can be best achieved through a trusted online training platform which delivers quality courses that are relevant in meeting industry needs.  As part of NTUC’s Training and Placement ecosystem, NTUC LHUB is well-positioned to be a strategic partner for government and employers to deliver training outcomes, and provide lifelong employability for workers through lifelong learning.”

Lack Of Time Is The Top Challenge For Employees’ Participation In L&D Programmes

Time was found to be the top challenge and roadblock to employee participation in L&D programmes. Many employees voiced concerns of having to participate in training outside their working hours and hence were less willing to participate, contributing to the low take up of company-offered training programmes. Employees mentioned that they are too busy with work (49%), have family or personal commitments (34%) and do not have a necessary stand in to cover their work while they were away on course (32%). This correlates with the perception of employers who believe that the lack of time during work hours is the biggest obstacle faced towards skills training, being disruptive to daily operations (58%), busyness at work (58%) and employees’ lack of support or interest in the courses offered (46%).

According to Sean Lim, Director of Human Capital at NTUC LHUB, “A commonly used framework by L&D professionals is the 70-20-10 rule where 70% of learning takes place on the job, 20% through collaborative work, and the remaining 10% through formal learning methods such as sending employees for courses and training. This framework ensures that organisations take a practical and comprehensive approach when it comes to employee development, while also taking pressure off employees as they can learn in a variety of means most natural for them.”

Prince Group Employee Wins 1st Place in Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2022 Logo Design Competition

Winning entry is the official logo of Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship

PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA – Media OutReach – 2 November 2021 – Prince Holding Group (“Prince Group”), one of Cambodia’s largest and fastest-growing conglomerates, is proud that Ms. Chutth Chenda, a Cambodian employee of Prince Real Estate, secured 1st place in the Cambodia ASEAN Chairmanship logo design competition organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (“MFAIC”). Chenda was one of four Prince employees who took part.

For her winning entry, Chenda received a US$1,000 cash prize from MFAIC. To recognize her efforts and accomplishment, the management of Prince Group has decided to match the cash prize with an equal contribution. The other three participants will also be receiving token prizes as a gesture of appreciation. The winning logo design was officially announced on 28 October by MFAIC when Cambodia symbolically took over the ASEAN chairmanship from Brunei at an official ceremony.

ASEAN, officially the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, is the pre-eminent economic union in Southeast Asia that advances the interests of the member states. The annual ASEAN Summit, which will be held in Cambodia next year, will signify an important juncture in the post-pandemic recovery as the meetings will be keenly watched internationally and attended by leaders, senior officials and key decision makers from the region and around the world. Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship logo will be the singular most iconic image of Cambodia’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2022, and will become a lasting legacy in the history of the Kingdom and the archival records of ASEAN.

The winning logo design depicts 10 lotus petals surrounded by a golden circle with the ASEAN symbol in the center. Chenda explained that it represents the joint efforts of the 10 ASEAN member countries working towards common goals in their peaceful quest for prosperity and harmony.  The color of the 10 layers of lotus petals is a rendition of the colors of Cambodia’s national flag to symbolize Cambodia being the 2022 Chair and host country for ASEAN.

Chenda, who is 29 years old and joined Prince Real Estate in 2020, said she liked to doodle in her free time and was challenged by her colleagues to participate in the competition. She was surprised that her entry was the winning logo, but said that the logo also embodied her hope that all 10 ASEAN nations will continue to work together to overcome challenges they each and collectively face, and be able to achieve sustainable development in ASEAN.

“At Prince Group, we are always delighted to see our employees take part in making a difference to the broader community and Chenda’s contribution is an excellent example of the civic mindedness we seek to champion as an organization,” said Gabriel Tan, Chief Communications Officer of Prince Holding Group. “We sincerely hope the winning logo will be a source of pride for Cambodians and as a local firm, we look forward to doing more to support Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship initiatives in 2022.”

The Chairmanship of ASEAN rotates annually based on the alphabetical order of the ASEAN member states. Cambodia joined the regional forum in April 1999 and last held the chairmanship in 2012.

Prince Group’s activities are primarily situated in Cambodia but Neak Oknha Chen Zhi, Chairman of Prince Group, has recently donated US$1 million to the Laos government in response to local authorities’ call to strengthen bilateral cooperation in fighting the pandemic. Prince Group was also recently recognized by Enterprise Asia for responsible entrepreneurship at the 2021 Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (“AREA”). It was the sixth award received by Prince Group this year as regional and international judging panels have recognized the Group as a leading Asian business championing sustainable development in Cambodia and across the ASEAN region.

About Prince Holding Group:

Prince Holding Group is one of the largest conglomerates in Cambodia, with its various units focusing on three core areas: real estate development, financial services and consumer services.

Prince Holding Group’s key business units in Cambodia include Prince Real Estate Group, Prince Huan Yu Real Estate Group, Prince Bank, Cambodia Airways, Belt Road Capital Management, as well as Awesome Global Investment Group. Via its subsidiaries, Prince Holding Group has over 80 businesses in Cambodia operating in real estate development, banking, finance, aviation, tourism, logistics, technology, food and beverages, and lifestyle sectors etc.

Rising foreign direct investment, free trade agreements with leading countries and future participation in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership are expected to act as key drivers for the Cambodian economy, supported by pro-industry policy initiatives by the government.

Leveraging a network of industrial, business and financial professionals across Asia, Prince Holding Group has laid the foundation to be a vital conduit for local and international capital. The Group is firmly committed to the long-term development of Cambodia. For example, Prince Holding Group is developing Ream City, an upcoming tourism and residential project that will be one of Cambodia’s first sustainable real estate projects, aiming to secure $16 billion in total investment for the region. Located conveniently within a 10-minute drive from the Sihanoukville International Airport, the project aims to contribute to economic recovery in Sihanoukville.
