Hong Kong Education City Launches ‘Go AI Scheme’ to advocate the prevalence of AI Education in HK
Free AI courses for Teachers and Students to enjoy coding at school and in summer
HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach – 14 May 2021 – The government has been actively promoting innovative education in recent years. Researches have predicted that artificial intelligence (AI) would become an influential technology in the world. As AI education is still at the nascent stage in local primary and secondary schools, the education sector is proactively looking for solutions that can provide teachers and students with the best innovative learning environment expeditiously. As such, Hong Kong Education City (EdCity) announced today the launch of the ‘Go AI Scheme’, to facilitate the prevalence of AI Education in Hong Kong by introducing AI learning platforms with curriculum and resources, enhancing teachers’ and students’ AI knowledge and future-ready skills in 21st Century.
The scheme targets local primary and secondary teachers and students. Each school is entitled to a quota of at least two teachers in-charge and 30 students for the scheme. Participation in the scheme is completely free of charge. Teacher training and a total of 32 to 40 hours of AI courses for primary and secondary students will be provided. The scheme is suitable for schools who are interested in AI or who wanted to enhance their teachers and students’ AI knowledge.
Starting off in June, trainings will first be organised for school teachers so that they can familiarise themselves with the learning contents in the platform to educate students’ learning of programming and understanding of AI, for which, in long run, AI can be integrated into school-based curriculum. The training also helps facilitate teaching and supporting students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills in a systemic manner. The training will especially touch on ethics and privacy issues relating to AI. Teachers will have the opportunity to discuss the issues with other teaching professionals and gain insights from multiple perspectives. This will equip teachers with the knowledge to nurture students applying AI positively in different areas and lead them to explore the idea of ‘Tech for Good’.
‘EdCity strives to promote the use of information technology to actualise innovative education. In recent years, we are glad to see many local primary and secondary schools actively involved in Artificial intelligence (AI) education to enhancing students’ technology literacy and computational thinking. The ‘Go AI Scheme’ uses a ‘high technology, low entrance barrier’ approach, with the advanced AI learning platform and ample of quality teaching resources, the scheme facilitates teachers to develop most suitable school-based programmes to nurture future-ready generations,’ said by Mr Victor Cheng Pat-leung, Executive Director of Hong Kong Education City.
Teaching materials developed by SenseTime will be used in the courses. The courses outlined a framework of progressive, easy-to-challenging approach, to strengthen students’ self-learning skills on the knowledge and interests in AI applications.
The curriculum covers basic concepts on AI, coding and applications and AI theories. Students should be familiar with blockly programming or have acquired some experience with text-based programming. The curriculum for primary students, which is 32 hours in length, includes the fundamentals of AI. It touches on data, computer vision, smart photography, smart music, smart robotics, etc. The curriculum for secondary students is 40 hours in length and includes machine learning, neural network and NLP. Upon completion, students will acquire basic skills in AI and be able to master visual programming and Python programming language.
The ‘Go AI Scheme’ will organise a series of online and in-person AI activities during summer holidays so that students can enjoy a fulfilling summer break. EdCity hopes that dozens of local primary and secondary schools will take part in the scheme during this initial stage. In the future, the scheme will be expanded to cover more schools so as to provide a comprehensive support to schools in AI education, and empower students ready to ride the wave of AI.

Global Teacher Prize Winner Ranjitsinh Disale Urges “Heroic” Hong Kong Teachers and Students to Apply for the 2021 Global Teacher Prize and The Inaugural Chegg.Org Global Student Prize Before Deadline Closes
Inspiring teachers and students now have until 16 May to submit their application
HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach – 14 May 2021 – Global Teacher Prize 2020 winner Ranjitsinh Disale today urged Hong Kong teachers and students to apply for the Global Teacher Prize 2021 and the inaugural Global Student Prize, as the deadline to apply for the awards was extended from Friday 30 April to Sunday 16 May.
The Indian village teacher who won the US$1 million Global Teacher Prize 2020, in partnership with UNESCO, praised Hong Kong’s teachers and students for their courage and perseverance despite the challenges and restrictions imposed over the last year by the Covid-19 pandemic. He said:
“The work of Hong Kong teachers, moving Heaven and Earth to keep their students learning amidst the greatest threat global education has ever faced, has been truly heroic. Students too have shown great strength of character throughout the pandemic. The two prizes recognise the inspirational work of both sides of education in Hong Kong, because it is teachers and students who will play vital roles in Hong Kong’s recovery. I now urge all these heroes to apply before the deadline closes.”
The Varkey Foundation has launched the Chegg.org Global Student Prize this year, a $50,000 sister award to the Global Teacher Prize, to create a powerful new platform to highlight the efforts of extraordinary students throughout the world that are making a real impact on learning, the lives of their peers and on society beyond. The prize is open to all students who are at least 16 years old and enrolled in an academic institution or training and skills program. Part time students as well as students enrolled in online courses are also eligible for the prize.
Sunny Varkey, founder of the Varkey Foundation, said:
“The pandemic has placed both teachers and students under tremendous pressure as education systems around the world continue to adapt to a new and unfamiliar terrain. We have therefore listened and are extending the deadline for the Global Teacher Prize and Global Student Prize to ensure all teachers and students have the time they need to get their applications in. It is now more important than ever before to hear their stories and listen to their voices.”
Chegg.org is a supporter of the Global Teacher Prize and has partnered with the Varkey Foundation to create the new Global Student Prize. Lila Thomas, Head of Chegg.org, said:
“Students continue to show tremendous strength, focus and determination to keep learning and keep fighting for their future. They deserve huge praise and recognition for never giving up.
“With so much resting on their shoulders, we wanted to give them a little extra time to apply for The Global Student Prize, which has been launched to shine a light on their stories and listen to their voices. It is these brilliant young minds who will help build a better future for us all.”
Nominations opened for this year’s awards on Tuesday 2 February, and together, the Global Teacher Prize and the Global Student Prize will tell inspirational stories from both sides of education. The prizes will shine a spotlight on the great work teachers do in preparing young people for the future and the amazing promise the brightest students are showing in their learning and far beyond.
Teachers applying for the Global Teacher Prize will be assessed on teaching practices, how they innovate to address local challenges, achieve demonstrable learning outcomes, impact the community beyond the classroom, help children become global citizens, improve the teaching profession and gain recognition from external bodies.
Students applying for the Global Student Prize will be assessed on their academic achievement, impact on their peers, how they make a difference in their community and beyond, how they overcome the odds to achieve, how they demonstrate creativity and innovation, and how they operate as global citizens.
Applicants for the Global Teacher Prize and the Global Student Prize can both apply at www.globalteacherprize.org with the revised closing date for applications of Sunday 16 May 2021.
Both prizes will be narrowed down to Top 50 shortlists and Top 10 finalists, to be announced later in the year, helping to raise the bar of respect for the teaching profession and provide worldwide recognition for high achieving students. The winners of both prizes will be chosen from the top 10 finalists by the Global Teacher Prize Academy made up of prominent individuals. The winners will be announced live at a ceremony later in the year.
If teachers or students are being nominated, the person nominating them will write a brief description online explaining why. The teacher or student being nominated will then be sent an email letting them know they’ve been nominated and inviting them to apply for the prize. Applicants can apply in English, Mandarin, Arabic, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian. To join the conversation online follow @TeacherPrize and @cheggdotorg

We are all Stardust: The first monograph dedicated to Parisian Jeweler Extraordinaire Frédéric Zaavy
Tells the story of the brilliant life of Frédéric Zaavy, his unique craftsmanship, and enduring legacy of his aesthetics and works
- 20 years of preparation, visiting 11 countries to record and unveil the artistry and fluctuating fortunes of the master jeweler
- Spanning over 240 pages, renowned still life photographers John Bigelow Taylor and Dianne Dubler’s compiled a visual narrative on Zaavy’s works, weaving together hundreds of images of his creative inspirations, atelier and domestic settings
- Monograph debuts the last 11 works made by Zaavy, which were never revealed during his life-time
HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach – 14 May 2021 – After nearly 20 years of preparation, the first monograph dedicated to Parisian artist-jeweler Frédéric Zaavy (1964-2011) has been launched, titled Stardust: The Work and Life of Jeweler Extraordinaire Frédéric Zaavy (Stardust). The monograph presents a portrait of an artist who strived to paint the beauty of the universe in precious stones. Zaavy considered himself heir to the legacy of Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, gem dealer to Louis XIV, and was chosen as the exclusive jeweler for the 21st century revival of Fabergé. Inspired by nature, quantum physics, philosophy, art, music, and literature, his poetic sensibility saw him create daringly intricate pieces with hundreds or thousands of tiny gems that came together like pointillist objets d’art. The monograph is dedicated to commemorating a talented jewellery artist, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of Zaavy’s passing.

Zaavy’s masterful approach was to paint with jewellery. He used gemstones akin to colors on a palette to present visions of nature and light in his creations. He drew inspiration from ginkgo leaves, lava-flows, icicles, and gnarled twigs, to create densely encrusted pieces that highlight the subtleties of color-gradation, and the depth of nature’s palette. For example, the Iris Bracelet (2011) perfectly replicates the draping petals of a white and yellow iris, through its composition of a central vivid yellow diamond enveloped in purple, yellow and white diamonds, sphenes, demantoids, tsavorites, palladium, gold and silver.
Many of his works were also inspired by the Impressionist movement, and these such pieces have been regarded as ‘sculptural forms of impressionist paintings’. Signature works include Nymphéas Bracelet (2005), an evocation of Claude Monet’s renowned “Water Lilies” murals. This astonishingly fluid and dream-like bracelet is studded with thousands of white, blue, yellow, violet, pink and black diamonds, as well as other gemstones to round out this platinum, yellow gold and sterling marvel of design, creating a floral abstract. In 2011, Frédéric Zaavy completed 11 works for 5 series: Iris, Legend, The Ribbons, Space and Lava, drawing a perfect ending to his life. These renowned works showcase Zaavy’s virtuoso technique and boundless imagination.
The high-end custom jewellery atelier Frédéric Zaavy was founded under the same name as the jewellery artist. The workshop is devoted to inheriting Zaavy’s design aesthetics and providing customers with exceptional and precious jewellery. Floréal Ercilla, the lead jeweler of Zaavy’s Parisian atelier, together with other jewelers, wax model makers and setters, create hand-made and unique jewellery for customers according to the design manuscripts left by Zaavy. To create these pieces in the workshop, it requires more than hundreds or thousands of hours of production time, thus highlighting the ultra-complicated design of Zaavy’s works.
Leading New York-based still life photographers John Bigelow Taylor and Dianne Dubler – whose work has featured in over 300 books focusing on works of art, architecture, jewellery, and antiquities – have created the visual narrative for the monograph. Featuring text by acclaimed French writer Gilles Hertzog, Stardust unveils the exquisite artistry and fascinating career of a master jeweler whose life was cut too short. Evocatively framed by his imminent mortality, the book gathers accounts of Zaavy from his closest allies, both personal and professional, looking directly into the darkest moments of his adventurous and precarious career. Taylor and Dubler’s photographs for the book shine a light on Zaavy’s work, weaving in images of his creative inspiration, atelier, and domestic settings among images that immortalise the jeweler’s creations.
The publication of monograph has received unconditional support from Lisa Chen, the co-founder of Daring Enterprise (the founding company of the brand Frédéric Zaavy) and Zaavy’s life partner. Chen said: “Frédéric and I embraced common dreams. We both endeavored to create moving artistic jewelry, which can be passed on from generation to generation. Frédéric worked non-stop for 18 years, burning his life to create 204 works for an excellent line-up of French royal crafts and arts. He created jewellery that worth billions in total. We look forward to recording, sharing, and inheriting Zaavy’s life and his aesthetics through Stardust. This monograph brings together the hearts and support of everyone, and we have been working tirelessly for 20 years to make it happen. We hope that every reader appreciates the heart-warming stories.”
John Bigelow Taylor and Dianne Dubler, photographers and friends of Zaavy, have said: “Stardust is the origin of all matter in the universe, including the diamonds Frédéric “painted” with and loved so much. He was fascinated that, in addition to their beauty, diamonds resonated deep time. However, he was undaunted by time and space, which he deemed to be inconsequential. He thought of time in eons and knew his moment here would never be enough. Months before he died, he said to us, “I am already dead,” but then carried on as if he would live forever! He often acknowledged that he had been here before and would someday return.“

About Frédéric Zaavy
Frédéric Zaavy (b. 1964, Paris, d. 2011) was the third generation of a family of diamond merchants. After a classical French education in which he studied at several art schools including the École des Arts Appliqués and the École des Beaux Arts, he decided not to enter the family business and instead, at the age of 20, began travelling the world. Time spent in East Africa, South East Asia, New York, Tel Aviv, Antwerp and Bangkok saw Zaavy learn and develop his trade in precious stones and diamonds. His expertise and rich knowledge of rare gemstones was reflected in his jewellery designs. His use of tourmalines, garnets, spinels, and aquamarines in the early stages of his career, which were not favoured in the market at that time, show his visionary perspective.
In 1994, he began creating one-of-a-kind jewellery pieces, working together with his partner Lisa Chen with whom he founded the Daring Enterprise Co. In 2000, he established his first atelier, and in the following years defined new standards of craftsmanship in the world of jewellery making. Following a 2007 exhibition of his work at Phillips de Pury & Company in New York, in 2008 he became the exclusive jeweler for luxury firm Fabergé allowing him to open a larger atelier near Place Vendôme, Paris. In 2010, with the knowledge that his life would be taken from cancer, he began actively working with John Bigelow Taylor and Dianne Dubler to create Stardust.

DirectAsia Reveals 5 Factors That Could Influence Your Car Insurance Quotes in Singapore
SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 14 May 2021 – Despite global economic disruptions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, car insurance premiums remain steep in Singapore. In a bid to help car owners make informed decisions about their vehicle insurance coverage and ensure accessibility of car insurance, DirectAsia, Singapore’s leading online insurer, points out that individuals must first be educated on the determinants of one’s policy. The organisation thus puts its support behind car owners by revealing several factors that insurers weigh when pricing out a quote.
1. Vehicle Make and Model
Continental cars, luxury cars and SUVs are typically tied to higher insurance rates. These can be attributed to the importing fees and expensive parts. On the contrary, vehicle owners can anticipate lower insurance rates when owning a car from Japanese or Korean brands.
2. Age of Car
New vehicles are obligated to higher insurance rates as the potential costs of repairing or replacing the car parts are being considered. The rates dip as the car ages and stay at a minimum when the vehicle reaches ten years or more.
3. Experience & Age of Insured
Given that younger drivers have a higher propensity to take risks while driving and pose a greater likelihood of being involved in car accidents, insurers tend to charge higher rates for this age group. This also applies to novice drivers with less than two years of experience behind the wheels. Following that are senior drivers above the age of 65, who may have higher risk of accidents on the roads.
4. Vehicle Modifications
Car modification is one of the lesser-known factors that could raise your insurance premium. Despite that, DirectAsia emphasises the importance of declaring any modifications to the insurer or prospective insurer, as non-disclosure may result in future claims being repudiated.
5. Claim History
Lastly, claim history is also added to the equation. If a single claim above $10,000 or two or more claims were made in the past three years, insurers might add on loading fees, which results in a higher base premium.
Conversely, individuals with good driving records and no past claims within one year or more are entitled to no claim discount(NCD). This can go up to 60% at DirectAsia.
Revolutionising Car Insurance in Singapore and Beyond
Besides understanding the rating factors, DirectAsia highlights that finding the right insurer to meet an individual’s unique lifestyles, preferences and needs is equally critical.
Reflecting DirectAsia’s relentless commitment to delivering unrivalled value are its tailored and transparent policies, complemented with exclusive promotions and optional benefits like NCD Protector Plus, Compensation for Loss of Use and more. Both experienced and inexperienced drivers can expect highly customisable motor insurance policies from the award-winning insurer.

The Samsung A51 has a smaller battery whereas the Redmi Note 9 Pro has a slightly bigger battery of 5020mAh, but that difference is negated by CAMON 17 Pro’s flash charging technology as the phone’s battery can be charged faster. And the 33W fast charger of CAMON 17 Pro enable a quick charge of up to 70% in just 30 minutes, which is an upgrade compared to the 15W charger of the Samsung A51 and 30W charger of Redmi Note 9 Pro.
