Splunk Advances OpenTelemetry Experience with New Innovations to Boost Digital Resilience

New observability innovations empower organizations to apply OpenTelemetry to large-scale environments with complete business visibility

LONDON, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — KubeCon EMEASplunk, the cybersecurity and observability leader, today announced new innovations to deliver a seamless OpenTelemetry experience that offers organizations flexibility, customization, and freedom from vendor lock-in with no manual setup. With the introduction of these new capabilities, Splunk provides a more intuitive, simplified OpenTelemetry experience – ensuring organizations can seamlessly integrate open-source observability into their software delivery and build a leading observability practice.

Nearly 60% of surveyed organizations say their primary observability solution relies on OpenTelemetry, making it a critical framework to advance business operations. Recognizing the great advantages of OpenTelemetry, Splunk made it the foundation of its Splunk Observability Cloud solution and continued to innovate to ensure organizations benefit from the framework’s vendor-neutral telemetry with unmatched ease of use. These new solutions include Service Inventory, enhanced capabilities for Kubernetes troubleshooting, and expanded support for automatic setup of OpenTelemetry instrumentation for applications.

Simplifying OpenTelemetry Adoption with Service Inventory and Expanded Automation

Service Inventory addresses the operational challenges of large-scale observability building on infrastructure inventory, automatic discovery and automatic configuration. This new capability:

  • Provides end-to-end visibility – Automatically detects all third-party applications, like databases and message queues.
  • Guides users through configuration – Provides step-by-step recommendations for seamless OpenTelemetry setup.
  • Identifies and resolves visibility gaps – Highlights missing instrumentation, allowing enterprises to proactively address blind spots across their infrastructure.

“Splunk customers benefit from OpenTelemetry’s full power, with a frictionless experience that ensures complete visibility, so they can attain flexibility and ownership of their data,” said Morgan McLean, OpenTelemetry Co-founder and Senior Director of Product Management at Splunk, a Cisco company. “OpenTelemetry should be effortless to use, and Splunk is committed to making that a reality with the introduction of Service Inventory and expanded automation. These enhancements give customers the power to build a leading observability practice with the ability to instrument and monitor their environments without the complexity of manual configuration.”

Deepening Kubernetes Observability and OpenTelemetry Support

Splunk enhanced its Kubernetes monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities to further enrich visibility and empower teams to quickly detect and resolve issues within Kubernetes clusters, reducing downtime and improving performance.

Further strengthening Splunk’s OpenTelemetry offering, the company is rolling out OpenTelemetry Python 2.0 and Node.js 3.0, delivering greater flexibility and improved performance for cloud-native applications.

“OpenTelemetry is rapidly becoming the industry standard for building an effective observability practice, but complex instrumentation remains a significant barrier. Splunk’s latest innovations have the potential to make its adoption more seamless than ever,” said Archana Venkatraman, Senior Research Director, Cloud Data Management, IDC Europe. “Cloud-native and Kubernetes strategies are becoming mainstream, requiring enterprise-grade management. Amid this, by automating instrumentation and deepening Kubernetes troubleshooting, Splunk continues to make OpenTelemetry a practical and powerful solution for digital enterprises.”

Ponsse Greasing System – new solutions for forest machines chain lubrication

VIEREMÄ, Finland, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The PONSSE Greasing System is a new optional accessory for Ponsse harvester heads, designed for chainsaw lubrication. The system feeds grease to the chainsaw from screw-in grease cartridges according to the dosing settings made through the Opti5G information system. Grease cartridges stored in a warm place ensure effective lubrication throughout the work shift.

“This is a solution that makes the workday of a forest machine operator easier, especially in cold weather. The grease cartridges replace the fixed grease tank in the harvester head, so you no longer need to pump cold grease from an external container to the harvester head’s grease tank. The cartridge is quick and easy to replace. The cartridges are easy to transport and can be stored in car or cabin,” says Toni Rajaniemi, Ponsse’s project manager.

The lubrication system can hold two 400-gram screw cartridges, which last approximately 8-16 hours, depending on the amount of sawing and dosing settings. The dosing settings can be adjusted from the Opti 5G information system according to the situation and need.

The information system notifies the operator when it is time to change the cartridge.  The grease cartridge is quick to change, so the machine’s downtime is very short. The grease cartridge can be refilled.

Ponsse’s range includes grease cartridges suitable for various needs such as mineral oil-based grease or new biodegradable oil-based grease. The PONSSE Greasing System is currently available for all PONSSE H6, H7, and H8 harvester heads. The Greasing Systems can also be retrofitted.

Xinhua Silk Road: China’s Dehua white porcelain shines in exhibition held in Japan’s Kyoto

BEIJING, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — An exhibition featuring over 80 pieces of China’s renowned Dehua white porcelain opened at the Museum of Kyoto in Japan from March 27 to 30.

The artworks, crafted in Dehua County, Quanzhou City in southeast China’s Fujian Province, were divided into categories such as classical cultural recreations, artisanal porcelain, everyday porcelain, and export porcelain. These works that blend practicality with artistic beauty drew enthusiastic responses from Japanese audiences, noted Xu Jianyong, executive vice president of Fujian Ceramics Industry Association.

Dehua porcelain has gained worldwide fame as “Blanc de Chine” (White from China) for its milky-white hue and jade-like finish. Different from this simple elegance, Japanese ceramics emphasize rich colors and decorations. The two cultural styles can have an extraordinary encounter with each other through such exhibitions, said Wang Jiaming, who is in charge of the art department of Seki Shikyo Art Lab, the exhibition curator.

The event facilitated cultural exchanges between Fujian’s master artisans and Japanese ceramic enthusiasts.

Zhang Minggui, executive secretary general of Dehua ceramic art masters alliance, said both China and Japan boast long history of porcelain production. This exhibition transcended art display and became a cultural dialogue allowing Japanese audiences to experience the charming traditional Chinese culture.

During the Sui and Tang dynasties (581-907), a large number of Chinese ceramics were exported to Japan, exerting significant influence on Japanese ceramics. During the Song and Yuan dynasties (960-1368) when Quanzhou’s overseas trade boomed, Dehua porcelain wares became cornerstone exports on the Maritime Silk Road.

Dehua saw its annual ceramic output value grow 15 percent year on year to reach 66.3 billion yuan (about 9.1 billion U.S. dollars) in 2024, with over 60 percent of its products shipped to more than 190 countries and regions.

The county has taken moves to expand overseas markets in recent years, including establishing seven white porcelain promotion and exhibition centers in places like Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Malacca, and organizing international showcases in Malaysia, Germany, and the United States among others.

Globe is first telco to join UN-led DISHA initiative for disaster response

MANILA, Philippines, April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — In a landmark pro bono agreement, Globe, a top telco and digital solutions provider in the Philippines, has become the first mobile network operator (MNO) to partner with the UN Global Pulse’s Data Insights for Social and Humanitarian Action (DISHA) coalition, harnessing AI-driven data for disaster preparedness and response.

Globe is first telco to join UN-led DISHA initiative for disaster response
Globe is first telco to join UN-led DISHA initiative for disaster response

The multi-partner initiative recently launched its pilot run in the Philippines, one of the world’s most disaster-prone regions, where about 74% of the population faces risks from floods, cyclones, earthquakes, tsunamis, and landslides.

“Given the Philippines’ vulnerability to the impacts of climate change, Globe is honored to be the first telecommunications company to join the DISHA coalition. This multi-sectoral partnership underscores our commitment to sustainability by leveraging digital technology to enable solutions and inspire collective action towards inclusive sustainable development,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe.

While timely and accurate information is critical in directing aid and ensuring swift recovery efforts, many local organizations still rely on manual assessments that can delay aid distribution.

DISHA addresses the challenge through the dynamic Socio-Economic Mapping solution developed in collaboration with McKinsey & Company and its AI arm QuantumBlack.

The Population Movement heatmap highlights unexpected population movement in disaster-stricken regions in near real time using trends derived from telecommunications data. Meanwhile, the Poverty Nowcasting feature uses machine learning models trained on government census data, telecom trends, and other anonymized signals to provide a regularly updated view of poverty levels. These tools help humanitarian organizations better respond to disasters, reaching those in most need.

“We’re excited to welcome Globe Telecom to the DISHA Partner community and look forward to working side-by-side with Globe and humanitarian agencies operating in the Philippines to validate and scale the DISHA Socio-Economic Mapping solution in the country. When used responsibly, trends derived from telecommunications data can meaningfully augment operational analytics available to first responders. We thank Globe for recognizing this potential and investing with us in making this a reality,” said Katya Klinova, Head of AI for Humanitarian and Development Use at UN Global Pulse.

As a supporter of the Sustainable Development Goals, this partnership between Globe and DISHA highlights the importance of digital connectivity in advancing the goals, especially on disaster management.

“Our partnership with DISHA provides a crucial data-for-good solution that will enable disaster management agencies and partner organizations to deliver life-saving aid to those who need it the most. Because connectivity is essential in those first critical hours after a disaster, DISHA’s Socio-Economic Mapping solution allows Globe to proactively prioritize service availability in shelter areas to enable recovery,” said Jenny Echevarria, VP for Enterprise Data and Strategic Services at Globe

Meanwhile, the Catholic Relief Services, the Philippine Red Cross, and Oxfam have contributed to refining the DISHA dashboard by providing feedback to improve its usability and effectiveness.

The beta-testing program in the country is now expanding, and humanitarian organizations in the Philippines are invited to test and validate the solution.

The 2024 GSMA SDG Impact Report highlights DISHA’s innovative approach and Globe’s role as its data partner in the Philippine pilot run. This initiative supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities and Goal 13 on climate action.
