Laos finished up with a 2-2 draw against rival Singapore at the SEA Games Group B U-23 match in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The Singaporeans struggled to maintain possession in the early stages of Saturday’s match at the Thien Truong Stadium in Nam Dinh, Vietnam, and paid the price when Laos scored in the 14th minute.
Singaporean Zulfahmi Arifin failed to clear his lines in midfield, allowing the ball to fall to Laos striker Ekkamai Ratxachak, who took advantage of Ryaan Sanizal’s timid defense to score past Zaiful Nizam.
Singapore failed to learn from its mistakes, paying for even more slack defensive work in the second half.
Laos looked poised to take its first-ever victory against Singapore, however, the Lao defense failed to clear a cross from the left, with Kweh taking advantage to score.
Singapore kept the pressure on throughout the remainder of the match, squeezing in another goal before full time.
Laos will take on Cambodia today at 4 pm.
