Second Lao University Games Concludes with NUOL Triumph

The second Lao University Games wrapped up in Vientiane on 13 May with the distribution of hundreds of medals to Lao athletes. 

Held at the National University of Laos’ Dongdok campus from 5-13 May, the game featured a total of 11 sports, including men’s and women’s football, volleyball, beach volleyball, taekwondo, pencak silat, badminton, sepak takraw, and e-sport competitions.

The games attracted thousands of participants, including players, coaches, government officials, and sports fans from across Laos.

A total of 104 gold, 104 silver, and 129 bronze medals were awarded. The NUOL team topped the medal rankings with 25 gold, 21 silver, and 33 bronze medals. The Institute of Sports and Physical Education followed in second place and the Military Academy secured third place.

Specifically, in the men’s football category, the Military Academy emerged as the champion, defeating Luang Prabang’s Souphanouvong University. The Lao-American Institute secured the bronze medal.

At the regional level, Laos is preparing for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations  (ASEAN) Championship, also known as the AFF Cup 2024, where the country will compete against either Brunei or Timor Leste.

Teams from ASEAN countries will play in a round-robin format, with the draw scheduled for 21 May in Hanoi, Vietnam. The ASEAN Championship will take place from 23 November to 21 February 2025.
