Global Times: Believing in China, believing in tomorrow

BEIJING, April 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — “Believing in China” has become a buzz phrase this spring.

“For us, opportunities exist in all Chinese cities” and “China’s scientific and technological innovation ecosystem injects surging momentum into promoting global coordinated development”… The annual meetings of the three high-level forums, the China Development Forum, the Boao Forum for Asia, and the Zhongguancun Forum, have been held one after another and “giving the world reason for optimism about China’s outlook” has become a general consensus.

International pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca announced that it will establish its sixth global strategic R&D center in Beijing. Shanghai Pudong welcomed 13 more regional headquarters of multinational corporations and four more foreign-funded R&D centers… Global chairmen and chief executive officers of foreign businesses visited China intensively, and “going to China” has become the firm choice of many foreign investors.

At a time when the world economy is in turmoil, why has “believing in China” become a unanimous belief?

“Embracing China is embracing opportunities, believing in China is believing in a better tomorrow, and investing in China is investing in the future,” President Xi Jinping said while meeting with representatives of the international business community in Beijing on March 28.

Belief comes from confidence. As an “oasis of certainty,” China is injecting confidence, momentum and positive energy into the development of the world economy.

Innovation advantage

Believing in China, because China firmly regards high-quality development as its top priority and develops new quality productive forces in accordance with local conditions.

China is always surprising the world with new things,” the words of former US Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez represent the change in the perception of China among many international observers.

From the “world factory” to the “innovation laboratory,” China’s innovation and development has accumulated a lot of strength and has great potential. In the first two months of this year, the output of high-tech products such as industrial robots, bullet trains, and civil drones in China increased by 27 percent, 64 percent, and 91.5 percent year-on-year, respectively, and the growth of innovative products such as “AI plus” has accelerated.

Today, more and more foreign companies regard innovation as the biggest opportunity for investing in China.

China is no longer just a manufacturing center; it is a global innovation powerhouse, said Stefan Hartung, chairman of the board of management of Robert Bosch GmbH.

China’s development has never relied on “predatory behavior” to change the rules of the game, but rather on seeking its own development space in market competition through active innovation. At present, China has built more than 30,000 basic-level smart factories, more than 1,200 advanced-level smart factories, and more than 230 excellent-level smart factories, which will effectively enable industrial transformation and upgrading.

Believing in China, because China “stands firm on the right side of history and the side of human civilization’s progress.”

Opening door wider

China’s policy measures to expand high-level opening-up resonate with the needs of multinational companies to maintain the stability of the industrial and supply chain, injecting valuable certainty into the world economy.

Everyone is willing to make friends with China because they are attracted by China’s concept of coexistence in harmony. The common development concept has brought more exchanges in cooperation areas: among the snow-capped mountains of Kyrgyzstan, tunnel engineering vehicles of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway roar day and night; with the Port of Chancay in Peru as a link, Colombia and Ecuador have opened new routes to China

“The interests to be considered should be the interests of all.” This is China’s vision, and this is China’s action.

From launching pilot projects to expand opening-up in the fields of value-added telecommunications and biotechnology, to support domestic and foreign-funded enterprises equally in participating in large-scale equipment upgrades, consumer goods trade-in and other activities; from expanding the “visa-free circle of friends” to “China Travel” becoming trendy on the internet…an open China allows the world to share development opportunities.

“International cooperation is not an option, but a necessity,” said Mustafa Shenhu, president of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations.

We must solidly promote high-level opening up, not only making good use of the global market and resources to develop ourselves, but also promoting the common development of the world. This is the open pursuit that China has always held.

Remarkable resilience

Believing in China, because China always “grows in the wind and rain, and gets stronger through hard times.”

Despite facing headwinds in the global economy, China’s economy has still demonstrated remarkable resilience, as foreign media has given a fair evaluation of China’s economic performance since last year.

Around 5 percent, a growth target that once got on people’s nerves. Last year, due to various factors, China’s economy faced an unfavorable situation of unstable market expectations and confidence, as well as a decline in the growth rate of key indicators.

A package of incremental policies was introduced intensively, becoming “a milestone move in macroeconomic regulation,” which not only stabilized economic growth but also enhanced the resilience and vitality of economic development.

The hard-earned 5 percent has shown the international community the strong resilience of the Chinese economy and the bright prospects for high-quality development.

Compared to last year’s doubts, this year’s growth target of around 5 percent for China is winning increasing external recognition. Foreign financial institutions generally believe that the continued effective implementation of various macro policies this year will accumulate more positive factors, driving China’s economy to continue to recover and improve.

In the face of wind and rain, a solid economic foundation, the advantage of an ultra-large-scale market, and a complete industrial system have given China strong confidence to cope with challenges. As a foreign guest at the China Development Forum said, “China possesses all the elements needed for future growth.”

With institutional advantages, market potential, and enterprise vitality, by focusing on running its own affairs well, the resilient Chinese economy will surely become even stronger after the storm.

We are now on the right path and must press ahead.

Believing in China, believing in tomorrow.

Danish Government awards Norne Thorning Storage the License to explore the possibility of CO2 storage in Jutland

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, April 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Norne Thorning Storage ApS (“Norne”), a Fidelis New Energy, LLC company, has been awarded the Exploration License for the Thorning structure by the Danish Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities. Norne will soon commence its exploration work program to gather the necessary information about the structure to thoroughly evaluate and confirm its suitability for safe and permanent CO2 storage. If the structure is suitable for storage, this could pave the way for storage before 2030.

Norne will be the operator of the Thorning exploration license working alongside their joint venture partner Nordsøfonden, representing the Danish state. If data acquisition and evaluation confirm that the Thorning geological structure is suitable for safe and permanent storage of CO2, then Norne and Nordsøfonden would then have the exclusive right to apply for a CO2 storage license, which will be subject to the approval of the Danish Energy Agency (“DEA”). In addition to successfully obtaining the CO2 storage license, all relevant environmental permits will be in place and all financial and safety related requirements met before the establishment of any CO2 storage facility.

“The exploration work program has been carefully designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the deep geological structures and their ability to safely and permanently store CO2. Ross, Norne’s Exclusive Subsurface and Wells Partner and their long experience with the subsoil of Denmark has been instrumental in planning the work program, which includes extensive seismic sensors aerial surveys with minimal environmental impacts, extensive 3D seismic surveys, and exploration and appraisal wells,” said Lars Bo Christiansen, President of Norne Climate Impact.

The award of the Thorning exploration license is a major milestone for Norne. Norne has been sponsored by Fidelis New Energy, LLC since 2021 and was chosen as an EU Project of Common Interest (“PCI”) by the European Commission in 2023. Adding the Thorning structure to Norne will bring Denmark and the EU one step closer towards its decarbonization goals with the potential to offer important hard-to-abate industries an integrated solution to reduce their CO2 emissions.

“We look forward to working alongside the DEA and collaborating with Nordsøfonden to explore the CO2 storage potential of the Danish subsoil, with the hope of establishing Thorning as a safe site for CO2 storage,” said Bengt Järlsjö, Co-Founder and President of Fidelis New Energy. “This license award highlights Denmark’s leadership in decarbonization once again, aiding both Danish and European industries in their pursuit of significant carbon emission reductions. Since 2021, we have engaged actively with the Danish government, local authorities, Port of Aalborg, and industry partners throughout Denmark and Europe. Our vision has consistently centered on promoting effective and safe onshore carbon capture and storage policies, while creating efficient and cost-effective CO2 infrastructure solutions for Denmark and Europe.”

Exploration and potential development of geological storage of CO2 is important for Denmark to achieve its carbon reduction targets for 2030 and beyond. Norne’s long and engaging discussions with Danish and EU industry players that need CO2 storage to decarbonize has enabled a concept where costs and environmental impact of Danish CO2 reductions can be significantly reduced as facilities are utilized by both Danish and EU emitters. Norne enables multiple modes of delivery of CO2 to Thorning. A CO2 receiving terminal at the Port of Aalborg will make it possible to receive CO2 from Danish, Baltic and European CO2 emitters.

About Norne:
Norne, also referred to as the Norne Carbon Storage Hub, consists of CO2 receiving facilities, pipelines, and storage facilities designed for safe and permanent storage of both biogenic CO2 and CO2 from hard- to-abate industries such as cement plants. Norne aims to receive and store CO2 from Danish and European industries that have no alternatives other than carbon capture and storage to reduce their carbon emissions. For more information, visit www.norneccs.com.

About Nordsøfonden:
Nordsøfonden is the Danish State subsurface resource company, tasked with generating value for Danish society by optimising the potential of Denmark’s subsurface assets. At the same time, Nordsøfonden is the state participant in all licences for underground carbon storage, where Nordsøfonden works to ensure reduction of emissions to the atmosphere. For more information, visit www.nordsoefonden.dk.

Inside the 28-square-meter FLEXHab habitat, DFRobot‘s open-source hardware products are primarily utilized as follows:

ODIN Smart Touch Terminals (2 units):
Each unit is equipped with DFRobot’s LattePanda 3 Delta SBC (8GB RAM/64GB storage) and DFRobot’s 11.6″ touchscreen, allowing astronauts to directly control cabin systems and monitor missions in real time. These terminals connect to DFRobot’s LattePanda Sigma central server — an x86-based Windows/Linux server with 32GB RAM, 500GB SSD, and WiFi 6E — which manages training data streams, ensures operational continuity, and synchronizes input across both terminals.

RAVEN Intelligent Environmental Monitoring System:
Ravens’ are sensor packs that employ an array of different environmental sensors to provide a simple, modular solution to understanding the environment.

  • Raven Lite: Features the ESP32-C3 chip, integrating DFRobot’s CO2 and basic environmental sensors.
  • Raven Pro: Utilizes an ESP32 PoE power solution, supporting multi-dimensional data collection through DFRobot’s O2 and MEMS motion monitoring sensors.

DFRobot Ambient Light Sensor: Provides real-time lighting data for SAGA’s self-developed circadian lighting system.

These modular components seamlessly integrate with SAGA’s smart management software, collectively creating a comprehensive monitoring network that covers life support and equipment operation.

Designed in close collaboration with ESA, the FLEXHab habitat meets a comprehensive set of requirements, including accommodating a crew of four astronauts for up to 30 days and incorporating features like a suitport.

“Following our 2023 collaboration on the SAGA Underwater Habitat (UHAB), we’re honored to see DFRobot’s open-source solutions powering the FLEXHab lunar training habitat,” said DFRobot CEO Ricky Ye.” This continued partnership with SAGA demonstrates the aerospace-grade reliability of our hardware in extreme environments. We remain committed to advancing space exploration through accessible open-source technologies that push the boundaries of human ingenuity.”
