Ariana DeBose and Lupita Nyong’o Shine in De Beers Jewellers at the 94th Academy Awards

LOS ANGELES, US – Media OutReach – 28 March 2022 – De Beers Jewellers natural and responsibly sourced diamonds shined on Oscar winner Ariana DeBose and presenter Lupita Nyong’o at the 94th Academy Awards.

Actress Ariana DeBose triumphantly won her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Anita in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of West Side Story after sweeping the rest of award season. She looked radiant with a fresh and modern take on Hollywood glamour in De Beers high jewellery collections – layered diamond line necklaces, Drops of Light diamond earrings, Arpeggia three-line diamond bracelet, Arpeggia ring and Ellesmere Treasure high jewellery ring paired with a vibrant red ensemble.

“Oscars night was spectacular in every way! When we chose the jewellery to wear for the big night, I put on the diamond necklaces from De Beers and the pieces immediately evoked light and music from within. Each one really spoke to me for this moment and it was the perfect way to celebrate this incredible evening. And I know De Beers is committed to sustainability which is a win for me,” Ariana said of her De Beers Jewellers look for the evening.

Zadrian Smith, half of Ariana’s styling team Zadrian + Sarah said of the look, “As Ariana’s Academy Awards look is so unique and individual, we needed jewellery that was going to stand apart as well. We chose stunning natural diamonds from De Beers, who had pieces that measured up to the magnitude of this moment.” Sarah Edmiston added “…And when we found out that the earrings and necklace she’s wearing were named ‘Drops of Light,’ it felt serendipitous. Ariana is such a light, illuminating the spaces around her.”

Lupita Nyong’o looked like an embodiment of an Oscar statue as she took the stage wearing a glittering gold gown accentuated by Light Rays crown ring from De Beers’ latest high jewellery collection, The Alchemist of Light, Motlatse Marvel earrings and Landers Radiance ring from the Reflections of Nature high jewellery collection.

“We paired the most extraordinary De Beers jewellery with Lupita’s gold fringe gown. The Light Rays crown ring from The Alchemist of Light collection could not be more perfect because it mimicked the detailing of the dress. The pink and yellow diamond earrings and statement ring from the Reflections of Nature collection added the perfect pop of colour. You don’t ever want your jewellery to compete with your dress, rather you want them to enhance each other. These pieces effortlessly did just that,” said stylist Micaela Erlanger of Lupita’s Oscars look.

OPPO Find X5 Pro elevates its cooling system to another level, offering an outstanding experience to users

SHENZHEN, CHINA – Media OutReach – 28 March 2022 – OPPO Find X5 Pro’s new cooling system allows the device to keep a cool head in any situation. The back panel won’t heat up uncomfortably when playing a rich 3D game, and there won’t be concerns about overheating when recording 4K video. A great cooling system unlocks the full potential of a powerful phone.

OPPO-28mar-1.jpg

PC-grade cooling in a miniature shell

Perfecting cooling in a phone is not a simple process. The OPPO Find X5 Pro uses a full passive cooling solution, generating zero noise. And all its pieces have to slot in around the core components in a precision-crafted case less than 9mm thick.

The OPPO Find X5 Pro cooling system is not treated as a pure logistical block puzzle. Each step of the process is guided by the human body’s perception of temperature. There will be no hot spot on the phone’s back that the users can notice, no heat build-up to distract from whatever situations

OPPO vapor chamber design

A vapor chamber is the heart of the phone’s cooling system. From the outside, this may simply look like a thin sheet of metal, but there’s an intricate little world inside its walls.

The vapor chamber is an ultra-thin copper cave injected with a very small amount of liquid. As heat from the components underneath conducts through the chamber’s bottom, this liquid evaporates and spreads throughout the chamber. It condenses on the outer walls, spreading the heat it held over a much larger surface area, dissipating the heat in the process.

The larger a vapor chamber is, the wider and more effectively it can move heat away from the components that generate it, like the primary processor. OPPO has managed to increase its size by 75% over the previous generation. It almost completely covers the battery and SoC, the main processor.

The display driver and display panel, the SoC and wireless charging coil are some of the heat-generating areas that require extra attention. OPPO developed bespoke solutions for these components based around three materials: copper, graphite and graphene.

Advanced materials engineering

Copper is the traditional material for cooling components. However, when devising heat management for the display, OPPO’s R&D team found that both heat dispersal and the resilience of the screen can be improved by using a copper sheet sandwiched with an ultra-thin layer of graphite.

It helps to keep the display cool while it delivers searing brightness at 120Hz, and dramatically improves the drop resilience of the OPPO Find X5 Pro by increasing structural integrity.

The other hot zones in a phone, like the motherboard and battery coil, did not need the same level of structural support, letting OPPO R&D dig even further into possible solutions. They landed on a graphene film, where the carbon from graphite is arranged in a single-atom layer, which dramatically improves strength and conductivity.

Graphene is a wonderful material but producing it on a mass scale is no easy task. To turn graphite into graphene involves a process called sintering, where the graphite is heated at temperatures up to 3100 degrees centigrade. Such high temperatures were unattainable for mass industrial production. OPPO is the first in the industry to achieve it, resulting in the highest quality, most conductive graphene film.

Following years of experimentation and fine-tuning, OPPO has achieved a 50% improvement in thermal conductivity of the graphene film compared to its first-generation process, for industry-leading performance.

The compromise-free cooling system lowers the OPPO Find X5 Pro heat to a comfortable range, even when running a 90/120 Hz high refresh game and keeps the phone cool while charging.

OPPO-28mar-2.jpg

More than passive cooling

OPPO also created the new Ice-skin* case to keep the phone cool while protecting it. The core of the case is Glacier Mat, an innovative material that achieves a self-replenishing cooling cycle without using any power at all.

Glacier Mat is a hydrogel layer co-developed with Wuhan University, one of the top universities in China. Hydrogel pulls moisture from the air, which is then evaporated through the heat generated by the device. It is an ideal material to bring the heat out from the device. However, the ordinary hydrogel cannot replenish water after evaporation so it can’t be used as a long-term cooling solution.

Glacier Mat is different, it is a modified hydrogel that can re-absorb moisture from the air at low temperatures, after the water initially held is evaporated through the process of cooling the OPPO Find X5 Pro, creating a circular cooling cycle. Although it sounds simple, it cost OPPO’s engineers a great deal of effort to put this theory into practice and mass production in less than half a year.

OPPO-28mar-3.jpg

Testing shows a 2-3 degree drop in phone temperature when gaming with the Ice-skin case attached. A cooler phone improves comfort during play and ensures the highest frame rates for smoother experience. The most important part: the Ice-skin case achieves all this with minimal weight, zero power use and zero noise.

‘Asia for Asia’ Powering the Growth of Supply Chain Networks in the Region

  • China’s capacity set to be increasingly allocated to domestic demand
  • Network configuration, facility location and building specifications are key considerations for optimization of supply chains
  • South East Asia and India set to be rising stars in supply chain networks

HONG KONG SAR – Media OutReach – 28 March 2022 – The COVID-19 pandemic over the last two years has put the spotlight on supply chain networks across the world, as supply disruptions became a major issue affecting the flow of trade globally and within regions. Asia’s role in global trade has also changed and with the growing importance in intraregional trade in Asia, corporations are having to reconfigure and build-out their logistics and industrial networks in the region, according to Cushman & Wakefield’s report, The Role of Asia Pacific in Global Supply Chains.

“As the world economies recover and businesses look for effective ways to address supply chain volatility, there is greater emphasis on being more resilient and designing flexible, responsive and efficient supply chain networks in the region to cater to regional needs. The rising ‘Asia for Asia’ approach sets the stage for the growth of supply chain networks in the region, particularly in South East Asia and India, and also highlights the critical factors that contribute towards the optimization of these networks,” said Tim Foster, Head of Supply Chain & Logistics Advisory, Asia Pacific at Cushman & Wakefield.

Cushman & Wakefield’s report, which looks at the impacts of disruption, customer buying behavior and the underlying megatrends on the design of supply chain and logistics networks, noted that Asian consumers are expected to buy more products originating from within the region and this trend is supported by the robust economic and demographic growth prospects for the region. By 2030, Asia is expected to account for over 40% of global economic output, 54% of the global population and a staggering 65% of the global middle class. The amount of trade taking place within Asia will therefore grow and have significant ramifications on the design of supply chain networks in the region.

While many businesses are still experiencing acute volatility in their supply chains due to COVID-related pressures, the situation is expected to ease somewhat towards the end of 2022. Given the predicted growth in the region over the next decade, the manufacture of technology-based products in Asia will grow, with South East Asia and India set to be the rising stars in the region’s supply chain networks.

“Asia will continue to be a key source of finished goods for global markets. The manufacture of components and sub-assemblies will increase in markets like Vietnam, Indonesia and India and these markets will move up the value chain and begin producing more finished goods. Food and beverage will drive growth in intraregional trade given their perishable nature and the need for cold chain integrity and traceability, with Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines and Malaysia being key markets,” noted Mr. Foster.

Growth of trade flows between China and Asia Pacific
CWtwo.jpg

Source: IMF, Moody’s, Cushman & Wakefield

“China is the leading example in the growing trend of consumers in Asia consuming more of the product made in Asia. Ahead, and into the next decade, we can expect that more and more of China’s supply chain capacity will go towards servicing domestic demand. Supply chain success for China will be dependent on adopting a customer-centric view, such as with the growth of e-commerce adoption. China’s online retail penetration rate is already the highest in the region by a considerable margin,” said Tony Su, Managing Director, Head of Industrial & Logistics Property Services, China at Cushman & Wakefield.

Designing and configuring supply chains to meet changing consumer demands, taking advantage of the megatrends around demographics, urbanization and technological advances, and factoring in structural shifts and disruption have a direct impact on demand for logistics and industrial real estate.

The growth of online retail has resulted in the rapid infill of last mile eCommerce networks, driving demand for space in sub-markets near major metropolitan areas that are well serviced by transportation networks. New development of real estate facilities must also adopt technology, automation and predictive analytics to plan and flow inventory from vendors to consumers to accelerate order fulfilment and space efficiency. Transparency and sustainability are also becoming increasingly important, with suppliers often required to provide information on their health, safety, labour and environmental practices, which then cascade downstream through the supply chain as corporations seek to meet their own Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) targets.

Given the rising cost of industrial property and the fact that approximately 80% of the value and cost of a supply chain network is locked in at the design stage, Cushman & Wakefield identified three key real estate considerations to optimize supply chain across the region.

  1. Network configuration – this will be dependent upon several factors, not least the footprint required for fast and efficient material and product flows as well as required storage capacity. Pressure on lean supply chains drives the need to consolidate the number of facilities to build scale while an agile network will be designed across a greater number of facilities.
  2. Facility location – understanding lead times is a significant driver of location requirements and it is important to know how much inventory needs to be held in relation to the consumer compared to further back in the supply chain.
  3. Building specifications – the pace of innovation has meant that specifications for prime-grade logistics buildings continue to advance. Building specifications should follow the needs of the customer, business requirements and facility processes, flows, layouts and automation.

Mr. Foster said, “Corporations need to focus on building resilience and flexibility into the supply chain. From a real estate perspective, the implications for industrial property abound but it is important to remember that real estate demand is the product of supply chain optimization. The key is to first design the optimal supply chain network, then execute on real estate requirements. Bringing these factors together in a coherent way provides the strongest approach to navigate short term and longer-term transformation.”

Capella Hotel Group Wins Praise For New Commitment To Source Only Cage-Free Eggs

SINGAPORE – Media OutReach – 28 March 2022 – Singapore-based Capella Hotel Group won praise today from global NGO Lever Foundation for setting a new commitment to purchase only cage-free eggs for all its operations globally by 2024.

“The Capella Hotel Group places a high value on ethical and environmental standards in its operations and is aware of its customers’ concern about animal welfare,” said Eric Guth, the group’s Food & Beverage Corporate Director. “The goal to source only cage-free eggs for our global services by 2024 reflects our commitment to working toward a supply chain that is more compassionate to animals and safer for consumers.”

The leading luxury hospitality group, with locations in Singapore, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Maldives, will implement the shift at all locations for all eggs purchased by the Group, and will later extend the policy to cover all externally sourced food products. Despite the severe impact caused by the ongoing global outbreak of COVID-19, Capella Shanghai, along with its partnered Michelin-starred French fine dining restaurant Le Comptoir de Pierre Gagnaire and French café La Boulangerie, has already completed the shift to using only cage-free eggs in all operations.

“We applaud Capella Hotel Group’s commitment on this important animal welfare issue”, said Lily Tse, Sustainability Program Director at Lever Foundation, which worked with the group on its commitment. “The pledge to go cage-free reaffirms the Group’s commitment to providing the finest hospitality experience for all their guests and demonstrates their ethical business standard.”

An increasing number of international hospitality brands and hundreds of leading food companies have committed to using only cage-free eggs, which have dramatically lower risks of salmonella contamination than caged eggs, higher food quality, and are more humane to animals. Cage-free production improves animal welfare conditions by allowing laying hens to move around freely in their environment and engage in natural behaviors.
