Representatives from Thailand’s Transport Company Limited, the Department of Land Transport (DLT) of Thailand, and the Lao Department of Transport convened in Vientiane, Laos, on 4-5 September. The meeting aimed to address and enhance road transport cooperation between the two nations.
One of the major outcomes of the discussions was the agreement to launch a new international bus route connecting Udon Thani in Thailand with Vang Vieng in Laos. Scheduled to begin in early November, this route will provide a direct link to the Laos-China railway.
The meeting also highlighted plans to study and potentially introduce five additional bus routes. These proposed routes include connections from Chiang Mai to Boten and Bangkok to Savannakhet, which are expected to enhance accessibility and foster stronger economic ties between the two countries.
To improve passenger convenience, the transport authorities will expand ticket sales through online and E-Ticket systems across all routes aiming to streamline the booking process and provide travelers with more flexible options.
In response to growing demand, upgrades will be made to the bus services. The Bangkok-Pakse route will see the introduction of special air-conditioned buses, designed to enhance comfort for long-distance travelers. Additionally, more buses and trips will be added to the Mukdahan-Savannakhet route to accommodate increased passenger flow.
According to Thai media, there will also be an increase in staff at the Nong Khai Immigration Checkpoint. This measure is expected to improve service efficiency and facilitate smoother processing for passengers crossing the border.
The new measures are anticipated to provide significant benefits to travelers and contribute to the overall development of regional transportation networks.

As an aid to discussions, the IoP shared two specially commissioned reports: “Examining Trust and Measurement in Asian Philanthropy,” a joint publication by IoP and McKinsey & Company; and “High-Impact Philanthropy: Giving Better across Asia and the World,” produced by the Bridgespan Group. On 9 September, Luang Namtha Province in northern Laos experienced severe flooding as a result of Typhoon Yagi. The intense rains from the storm caused extensive damage across the region, overwhelming local infrastructure and leading to significant disruptions.
In response to this crisis, the military has mobilized to provide crucial assistance. By 11 September, military personnel in Luang Namtha have intensified their efforts to aid those affected by the flooding. They are actively involved in evacuating the injured to hospitals and ensuring the safety of residents.
Despite these efforts, the impact of the flooding has been devastating. The local airport has been temporarily closed due to the high water levels, and the first floor of the local hospital has been inundated. Many homes have been severely damaged or destroyed, forcing some residents to seek refuge on their rooftops as the waters continued to rise.
One man who had initially escaped the floodwaters lost his life when he returned to assist others and was swept away by strong currents. Emergency response teams are working tirelessly to rescue those still trapped and provide necessary aid. Although water levels have begun to recede, many residents remain in urgent need of help.
Amidst these challenges, flights between Vientiane and Luang Namtha have been canceled until further notice. Lao Airlines and Lao Skyway suspended their operations on 10 September due to severe flooding at Luang Namtha Airport, which has made takeoffs and landings impossible. Authorities are addressing the situation, and flights will resume once the airport is fully operational.
As part of the emergency response, medical aid is being provided at two key locations in Luang Namtha: Vieng Nuea village and the Provincial Public Security Office. Medical teams are offering wound care, vaccinations, and emergency medications to those in need.
The 703rd Battalion of the Air Force Command has also deployed personnel, aircraft, and ships to support the rescue and relief operations.
Meanwhile many private and public organizations across Laos have made themselves available to accept donations for Luang Namtha’s flood victims and local residents
HAL Logistics has offered free shipping of essential items, medicines, canned food, and milk to Luang Namtha.
The Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry has also issued a call for contributions to support the affected communities. They are urging businesses and individuals to donate materials, gold, and other resources to assist in the recovery efforts. Donations can be made through designated bank accounts set up specifically for this purpose.
Meanwhile, Luang Prabang is currently facing a critical situation with rising water levels. Forecasts indicate that the water levels could reach dangerously high levels by 13 September, the Lao government warned.
Typhoon Yagi has had a widespread impact beyond Laos, affecting northern Vietnam, southern China, and the Philippines. In Vietnam, the typhoon has resulted in 14 deaths, with 13 people reported missing and at least 187 injured. The storm has caused severe damage, including the destruction of over 3,400 houses and thousands of acres of farmland.
The storm’s effects have been similarly devastating in southern China and the Philippines, causing fatalities, injuries, and significant disruptions to transportation and daily life. Climate scientists attribute the increasing intensity of such storms to warming ocean temperatures.
Authorities in both Laos and Vietnam are working diligently to address the immediate needs of affected communities and coordinate comprehensive recovery efforts.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Media OutReach Newswire – 11 September 2024 – Since the first days of Artificial Intelligence’s rapid expansion into various industries, the financial sector has been one of the leading adopters of these technologies. In this field, AI-driven algorithms are seeing an ever-widening variety of applications, including risk management, predictive analytics, and customer service automation. For example, according to recent research, algorithmic trading in the U.S. stock market constitutes 60–75% of total trading volume. That shows that AI-based tools have already established themselves as a crucial element of modern trading and investing platforms.
The experts at Octa, a globally recognised financial broker, summarise the current market landscape for AI-based trading tools. Building on that, they present the results of a traders’ survey showcasing the importance of generating lessons learned from one’s trading sessions and look at OctaVision, a new AI-based alternative to traditional analysis methods.
As governments and businesses exponentially increase their spending on AI research and adoption, AI-based solutions rise in popularity worldwide. However, the optimal practices and approaches to using AI-based technologies are yet to be decided, as AI adoption shows varying scale and efficiency in different sectors.
Applications of AI in trading In trading, a field where AI-based technologies are becoming increasingly popular, prediction and analysis go hand in hand. For many retail traders, assessing their previous orders is one of the main prerequisites for improving their decision-making skills.
According to Kar Yong Ang, a financial market analyst for an international broker Octa, AI has already gained a solid foothold in trading: deep learning frameworks generate market signals, dedicated bots allow traders to automate order execution, and AI-based solutions support them in developing and backtesting their trading strategies. ‘Even though various AI- and ML-based tools are already used for trading on financial markets, the broader adoption of these technologies in trading is yet to come as many traders prefer to fall back on less advanced approaches, missing out on this opportunity’, Kar Yong Ang said.
Assessing one’s trades: a way to improve trading results Octa has conducted research to gauge traders’ attitudes towards reviewing their trades. Out of 821 respondents, 85% marked this self-assessment as necessary, while 70% already practise it regularly.
One out of three survey participants said they analysed their past trades using third-party services instead of within the trading platform. More than half don’t use any dedicated analytical tools at all, making do with manual research. Only a few traders are lucky enough to have a trusted mentor who can break down their sessions and provide constructive, impartial feedback, allowing them to improve by not repeating the same mistakes.
To address this pressing issue, Octa recently launched a new feature built into its proprietary trading platform, OctaTrader. From now on, OctaTrader clients can analyse their order history with OctaVision. This embedded AI-based toolkit offers personalised recommendations and allows traders to level up their decision-making skills with each session.
OctaVision: an AI-based recommendation engine as a mentor Created as a balanced combination of human expertise and AI’s data-processing prowess, OctaVision allows to analyse an individual closed order or a whole trading session in bulk. While OctaVision uses a built-in AI engine to create data-driven unbiased recommendations, it is also anchored in extensive market knowledge of Octa’s expert traders who oversaw the development and content creation process, double-checking each outcome against their hands-on experience.
As a detailed and personalised source of trading feedback, OctaVision is indispensable as an objective, impersonal mentor who helps hone trading skills step by step. OctaVision uses plain language to point out strengths and weaknesses in decisions, substantiating the assessment with statistics while providing personalised, actionable advice.
OctaVision has already been deployed for all of OctaTrader’s clients in all regions. The toolkit generates recommendations in English and is currently available for the trading platform’s desktop version.
OctaTrader currently offers two proprietary embedded toolkits that empower traders and help them achieve consistent results. While an analytical hub called Space provides timely market insights and serves as a decision-making support mechanism, the recently introduced OctaVision plays the role of an AI-powered digital mentor, boosting traders’ ability to analyse their past trades and delivering the lessons learned in a concise, result-oriented manner. Fair, Just, and Transparent, Protecting Citizens’ Rights
Adrien Kwong, founder of HKFindlawyer.com, said, “We not only see problems with unethical lawyers in the property market, but the recent ‘東張西望’ report of a shocking real estate scam involving Mrs. Lam, who lost a down payment of 700,000 HKD due to suspected collusion between the property seller and the law firm, further highlighted this issue. This incident has once again brought attention to the problem of unethical law firms in Hong Kong. It also reminds us of the ‘Wong Fung Solicitors’ fraud case from years ago, where the firm was accused of embezzling client funds, leading to over 79 buyers having their mortgage funds frozen and facing bankruptcy. Many Hongkongers expressed concern after hearing this, stating that these law firms’ actions resemble a ‘trap’ that leaves innocent buyers with heavy losses.”
He continued, “Through this platform, we hope to provide citizens with a fair, just, and transparent law firm rating system, allowing them to identify truly trustworthy lawyers and avoid falling into the traps of unethical firms. Legal services should be transparent, and any misconduct or malpractice will be revealed in this system.”
This innovative feature will effectively help citizens find the right law firm to handle their legal issues, ensuring the protection of their legal rights. Whether it’s buying property, claiming work injury compensation, or handling criminal cases.
