LG Chairman Koo Kwang-mo Champions Group’s “Second Leap” in Key Global Markets

Strategic Visits to Bengaluru, New Delhi, and Dubai to Enhance Future Growth Strategies

SEOUL, South Korea, March 4, 2025  /PRNewswire/ — LG Corp. (LG) Chairman and CEO Koo Kwang-mo has initiated a “Second Leap” for LG with strategic visits to key markets, including India and the UAE, highlighting their growing importance for LG’s global strategy.

Chairman Koo (third from the left, standing) visits LG Electronics' Noida manufacturing plant in New Delhi, India, to observe the air conditioner production process.
Chairman Koo (third from the left, standing) visits LG Electronics’ Noida manufacturing plant in New Delhi, India, to observe the air conditioner production process.

India, with its population of approximately 1.4 billion, is the world’s most populous country. Nearly 600 million people, or around 43 percent of the population, are under the age of 25, presenting a significant demographic advantage expected to drive consumer market growth over the next two decades. International rating agencies project India to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2030.

Recognizing these trends, Chairman Koo met with employees and business leaders in India to evaluate LG’s competitiveness across the value chain, from R&D to manufacturing and distribution. He expressed gratitude to LG employees for their dedication in overcoming challenges and strengthening LG’s presence in India.

Building on 30 Years of Success: A Vision for the Next Era

Chairman Koo emphasized LG’s commitment to India, stating, “India is not just a key market for LG but also a land of immense opportunity for global companies. Leveraging our deep understanding of customers and our strong market position, we will seek to collaborate with the people of India to become the nation’s most trusted brand and drive our growth for the next era.”

LG’s journey in India began in 1996 with a software research center, followed by expansions from LG Chem (1996), LG Electronics (1997), and LG Energy Solution (2023). Over nearly three decades, LG has established itself as a market leader through a highly localized strategy tailored to Indian consumers.

LG Electronics, which entered the Indian market in 1997, has expanded its presence through advanced technology and localization strategies. The company introduced an air conditioner that repels mosquitoes using ultrasound to combat dengue fever and developed a refrigerator that maintains cold temperatures for up to seven hours during power outages, addressing India’s specific needs.

Building on its strong market presence, LG Electronics has made significant investments to fuel its next phase of growth in India. LG Electronics operates manufacturing facilities in Noida and Pune and is discussing plans to establish a new production site in Andhra Pradesh to meet increasing market demand.

Beyond home appliances, LG has expanded its investments in the battery, chemical, and energy sectors. LG Chem has refined its strategy to target the high-value-added materials market, while LG Energy Solution is exploring opportunities in the growing electric vehicle battery and energy storage system markets.

Strengthening Global R&D Strategy in India

Bengaluru, often referred to as India’s Silicon Valley, plays a vital role in LG’s global R&D strategy. Chairman Koo visited LG Soft India, LG’s largest overseas software research center, which houses over 2,000 developers working on the development of the webOS platform, automotive solutions, and next-generation technologies. Opened in 1996, the facility is one of LG’s largest overseas R&D centers around the globe.

Chairman Koo highlighted the importance of collaboration with R&D centers in India and urged researchers to focus on enhancing LG’s software competitiveness. “The rapid pace of software technology innovation makes India’s role increasingly vital,” stated Chairman Koo. “With nearly 30 years of accumulated research expertise, we should continue to enhance and differentiate our software capabilities.”

India’s IT industry is a key driver of economic growth, contributing 7 percent of GDP. The country boasts a strong talent pool, with over five million software developers and approximately one million engineering graduates entering the workforce each year, making India a preferred R&D hub for global technology giants.

Listening to on-site insights on LG’s Business Competitiveness

Chairman Koo continued his visit in New Delhi, listening to on-site feedback from LG Electronics’ production and distribution network. At the Noida production facility, he discussed India’s evolving consumer landscape, competitive environment, and market trends. He also visited the home appliance production lines, including refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners, discussing future investments and market strategies.

In addition, he explored local retail environments, including LG Brand Shops and major retail chains such as Reliance, where he carefully gathered opinions on products tailored to Indian consumer needs. These included refrigerators with convertible freezer compartments to accommodate vegetarian households and AI-powered washing machines optimized for Saree fabric care, reinforcing the importance of delivering locally differentiated customer value.

Dubai: A Strategic Hub for the Middle East and Africa

Following his India visit, Chairman Koo traveled to Dubai, a key strategic hub for LG’s Middle East and Africa operations. He discussed the status and strategic directions of LG’s business in the region and visited major home appliance distribution stores to assess market trends and the competitive landscape.

LG has been active in the Middle East since 1982 and currently operates 12 subsidiaries across the region, covering sales, manufacturing, and services. “The Middle East and Africa region presents both challenges and significant growth opportunities,” said Chairman Koo. “We must adopt a strategically sophisticated approach to establish this region as a key pillar of LG’s future growth.”

Turnitin launches Turnitin Clarity, bringing transparency and integrity insights to education

New offering delivers a composition workspace for students with educator-guided AI assistance, assignment-to-grading workflows and integrity insights – all in one place

AUSTIN, Texas, March 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Today at SXSW® EDU, Turnitin, a leading provider of technology solutions in academic integrity, introduced its latest product, Turnitin Clarity. In the age of AI, Turnitin Clarity touts a variety of features, including educator-guided AI assistance and a composition experience for students, that benefit the entire educational community – not just students. It will be available as an extension to Turnitin Feedback Studio.

Turnitin Clarity includes a composition space for students to draft their writing assignments with transparency and, when permitted and prompted by the educator, receive AI-generated feedback on their writing to help them improve their work. This gives students the confidence to demonstrate that their submissions are original and representative of their learning.

For educators, it’s an all-in-one place to establish the acceptable use of AI by assignment and to help students use AI responsibly. With Turnitin Clarity, they can view the student’s writing activity and access insights to easily assess originality, leveling the field and helping ensure fair, equitable grading.

Finally, with Turnitin Clarity, administrators can breathe easy knowing there is transparency and data to support the institution’s academic integrity and AI usage policies, and writing assignments and learning expectations are fulfilled, with or without AI assistance.

“Turnitin Clarity serves as a bridge between students and educators,” said Turnitin’s Chief Product Officer Annie Chechitelli. “Students will need to use AI in their future careers. With Turnitin Clarity, educators can begin to understand how students use it and identify ways to incorporate it into their writing, without hindering their academic progress.”

Turnitin Clarity brings everyone in the educational community together through:

  • One-stop composition experience for students: Leveraging the institution’s existing Turnitin workflow, students can gain confidence tackling a writing assignment safely within Turnitin Clarity; from accessing the assignment’s instructions and rubric, to writing and editing their submission over multiple sessions prior to the due date within in the institution’s Learning Management System.
  • Chance to learn how to use AI tools responsibly: For many students, AI-powered tools are part of their learning and writing process, without the benefit of educator guidance. However, when Turnitin Clarity’s optional AI writing assistant feature is enabled by an educator, students can use AI as a foundational writing assistant, empowering them to integrate the technology in a responsible and ethical way.
  • A view of students’ writing process, not just the end product: Within the feature, educators can see their students’ entire drafting process – such as pasted text, typing patterns, construction time and draft history – not just their final submission. Students’ writing histories can be viewed through the video playback function and easy-to-interpret reporting. When enabled, educators can also see where and how students may have used AI tools, and provide guidance based on their usage. This will help provide information to determine whether the students’ work meets the institution and assignment’s integrity standards.
  • Integrity insights all in one place: Integrated with Turnitin Feedback Studio, Turnitin Clarity makes it easier for educators to access all of Turnitin’s integrity insights in one place to quickly determine the data behind the originality of a student’s written work. Instead of educators having to request, manage and review students’ version histories and reports from other applications, with Turnitin Clarity, these insights are already available when the student submits their assignment, kickstarting constructive, trust-building conversations. Insights can include similarity checking, AI writing detection,* submission metadata,* grading and feedback, writing reports, and playback with flags that further suggest educator review.
  • A collaborative experience with actionable feedback: Turnitin believes it’s not just about assessing a writing submission, but rather a collaborative experience between educator and student. Educators can deliver tailored and personalized feedback quickly and easily with features available within Turnitin Feedback Studio, helping cultivate a dynamic writing experience for both students and educators.

“Turnitin Clarity helps ensure more fair and equitable grading by leveling the playing field,” adds Chechitelli. “These capabilities allow the educator to set expectations on the permissible use of generative AI alongside the assignment’s instructions and rubric. Students can compose and turn in their work with confidence.”

Turnitin Clarity will be available as a paid add-on to all Turnitin Feedback Studio customers starting in the third quarter of 2025. For more information visit https://www.turnitin.com/campaigns/clarity/

Sojern Introduces Fully Managed Email Campaigns–Hoteliers Pay for Performance

SAN FRANCISCO, March 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Sojern, the leading marketing platform built for hospitality, is excited to announce the addition of a fully managed email marketing service as part of its multichannel Commission offering. This industry-first solution streamlines marketing, making it easier to drive direct bookings, build guest loyalty, and reduce online travel agency (OTA) dependence—all within Sojern’s transparent pay-for-performance commission model. Now available in the US and Canada, with additional countries coming soon.

Logo, no tagline

Email campaigns are a powerful tool for hoteliers to engage travelers and build loyalty at every stage—from awareness to post-stay. With email marketing revenue expected to hit $17.9 billion by 2027, the channel continues to grow. However, time, expertise, and budget constraints often limit hoteliers’ ability to run effective email campaigns.

Now, hoteliers can partner with Sojern to effortlessly execute high-performing email campaigns without the need for in-house resources. Powered by Sojern’s AI-driven marketing platform, this new fully managed service combines Sojern’s Guest Marketing Suite with the expertise of email designers and copywriters to ensure seamless campaign creation, deployment, performance and measurement. Sojern’s email solution seamlessly connects with the hotel’s property management system (PMS) to unlock powerful guest insights, enabling targeted email campaigns that drive engagement and direct bookings. Automated reconciliation further streamlines operations, allowing hoteliers to focus on the guest experience rather than manual tasks.

“Today’s travelers increasingly seek personalized experiences, from their destination choices to their on-property stays,” said Noreen Henry, Chief Revenue Officer at Sojern. “In fact, 90% of consumers expect brands to understand and anticipate their needs. As guests invest more in memorable and tailored experiences, they expect the same level of personalization from hotels before they’ve even arrived. With Sojern’s fully-managed email solution, hotel marketers can deliver timely, branded content that drives engagement, direct bookings, and loyalty—overcoming traditional bandwidth and budget hurdles without additional work.”

Cultivate Guest Relationships to Drive Direct Bookings

While many hotels still rely on bookings from OTAs, and will continue to in some capacity, the industry is shifting. Skift projects that by 2030, direct digital channels are expected to surpass OTAs as the dominant distribution channel for hoteliers, with an estimated $409 billion in direct bookings compared to $333 billion from OTAs. Sojern’s fully managed email service helps hoteliers capitalize on this shift by delivering brand-aligned email campaigns that engage past guests, encourage repeat stays, reduce OTA dependence, and recapture abandoned bookings. And since repeat customers spend 67% more than new guests, investing in customized branded email campaigns isn’t just smart—it’s a revenue-driving necessity.

Early adopter Nicole Willams, Principal/VP Sales & Marketing, Daryon Hotels International said, “Working with Sojern has been a fantastic experience. Their email marketing campaigns have been a game-changer, helping us reach the right audience and drive more bookings. The process is seamless, the reporting is clear, and the results speak for themselves.”

Budget constraints often limit hotel marketers’ abilities to get their brand in front of potential travelers. Rather than front-loading costs, Sojern’s pay-for-performance pricing model is tied directly to revenue, allowing hoteliers to participate in managed email campaigns by only paying for performance.

Beyond reducing upfront costs, Sojern’s multichannel approach allows hoteliers to ensure every touchpoint works together seamlessly to maximize conversions. With sophisticated attribution, hoteliers are able to engage travelers across channels, optimizing marketing spend and effectiveness to maximize ROI.

Máret Ánne Sara was born in 1983 to a Sámi reindeer herding family in Guovdageaidnu in the Norwegian part of Sápmi, the traditional territory of the Sámi people which is today divided between the nation states of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia, where she continues to work today. Through her multidisciplinary practice, Sara highlights the impact of Nordic colonialism on Sámi ways of life, exploring the importance of preserving Sámi ancestral knowledge and values to protect the environment for future generations. Often using materials and methodologies derived from reindeer herding, Sara creates powerful sculptures and installations which uphold the reciprocal relationship between animals, lands, waters and humans.

“Máret Ánne Sara is among a prolific group of Sámi artists who have received widespread international attention in recent years for making visible the issues facing Sápmi and Sámi people,” said Karin Hindsbo, Director of Tate Modern. “By addressing the major social, ecological and political concerns of her community, Sara hopes not only to increase interest and awareness, but also to effect real change. I’m thrilled she will be creating her first work in the UK here at Tate Modern and I look forward to seeing how she will transform the Turbine Hall. I’m sure it will be both challenging and full of wonder.”
