GEODIS awarded contract with American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. to support retailer’s growth in Japan

American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. (AEO) taps GEODIS for its strategic operations in Japan and omnichannel growth in the market for their leading American Eagle and Aerie brands. This contract comes amidst explosive growth of opportunities on eCommerce platforms around the world.

TOKYO, JAPAN – Media OutReach – 12 January 2022 – GEODIS, a global leading transport and logistics services provider, today announced that AEO has awarded its Japan office the contract to support the retailer’s distribution center. According to economists at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), global eCommerce growth has seen a dramatic rise across retail sales fueled by COVID-19, with a jump from 16 to 19 percent in 2020. AEO has partnered with GEODIS to support its growth, beginning in Japan, and anticipates eventually expanding the brands to other markets in Asia and other regions in the coming months.

Chris Cahill, Managing Director, North Asia Sub-Region of GEODIS said: “Retail brands are reaching their customers in unprecedented fashion as they shop for their favorite items anytime and anywhere, and GEODIS is proud to be the appointed logistics provider to deliver AEO products into the hands of customers in the shortest amount of time possible no matter where they reside in Japan.”

The retailer’s ambitious growth as an online brand demonstrates its continued resonance with customers in Japan and the region. Over the years, AEO has maintained a closeness to its Japan customer base, now enhanced by the presence of its distribution center run by GEODIS, which will cut down lengthy delivery times through a centralized distribution model from a single location to ensure customers have the best experience.

Chauhan Vijay, Senior Vice President – International at AEO said: “This partnership with GEODIS provides AEO the agility, flexibility and reach to bring our leading brands – and our signature American Eagle jeans and Aerie’s comfortable, cozy apparel and intimates – to our customers faster and more efficiently.  GEODIS’ logistical capabilities enable us to further enhance our omnichannel experience and provide the very best for our customers by making it easier to shop our brands. AEO products are now within easy reach, no matter from wherever the customers are shopping in Japan.”

Africa’s biggest retailers to discuss post-COVID retailing at Digital Retail Africa 2022

Following a successful 2021 event, the next edition of Digital Retail Africa will take place online on the 26th of January 2022.

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – Media OutReach – 12 January 2022 – With the global pandemic acting as an accelerant, digital transformation across retail verticals has gained new momentum, seeing rapid adoption of digital technology within the sector.

According to a 2021 research report released by PWC, people affected by the pandemic are driving a “historic and dramatic shift in consumer behaviour”. The consulting firm reports a strong shift to online shopping as people were first confined by lockdowns, and then many continued to work from home.

Another significant finding from the report is that consumers are not likely to go back to their old ways of shopping once the pandemic is over.

Online sales in South Africa grew by 66% in 2020 to more than $1.8 billion (ZAR30 billion). This means that retailers have no choice but to reimagine the functionality of stores and tap into digital tools to stay relevant for the ‘new normal customer’.

Under the theme “Developing sustainability and competitiveness in the post-pandemic retail landscape“, Digital Retail Africa 2022 will bring together hundreds of retail leaders to discuss emerging industry trends.

Confirmed attendees for this year’s event include senior executives from Superbalist, GSK, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Dis-Chem Pharmacies, Massmart, BMW Group, Leroy Merlin and Konga Nigeria among others.

Key topics to be discussed at #DRA2022:

  • Reimagining the Future of Retail
  • Unpacking next-level E-commerce: People, Data & Technology
  • Leveraging technology and automation to unlock retail growth
  • Overcoming retail security challenges with the cloud
  • Touchless Retail Solutions: Reshaping the In-Store Experience
  • The impact of Buy-Now-Pay-Later platforms on the retail industry
  • Using technology to drive efficiencies in retail logistics
  • How Cloud Computing is Transforming the Retail Sector

7 Tips for Getting More Travel in Your Life

Wanderlust is a real thing, and many of us are longing to get out and see more of the world. Whether you want to travel around the world or you’re desperate to get away from your hometown for a while, traveling isn’t always straightforward. If you’re wondering what you can do to include more travel in your life, let’s look at some of these top tips.

1.     Find Ways to Afford It

One of the main things that holds people back from traveling more is a lack of money. But with so many cheap deals and offers to look out for, people with a budget don’t have to miss out on traveling. There are several ways you can save on travel, such as opting for cheaper accommodation or flying at one of the quieter times of the year.

2.     Make More Time for Travel

As well as money, another big thing that holds a lot of wannabe travelers back from fulfilling their goals is a lack of time. If you’re working, studying, or looking after a family, there are many commitments to juggle and many things that could get in the way. Block out time several weeks or months in advance and prioritize your travel plans.

3.     Utilize Frequent Flyer Schemes

Explore frequent flyer schemes and see which programs might be helpful in building points and miles to further your travel experiences. Some programs allow you to collect points whenever you make a purchase on a debit or credit card, so you don’t need to travel to get more points to travel further.

4.     Travel with Friends

There are many reasons to travel with friends. Not only are they likely to suggest plans for travel too, which can help to create fixed dates for your diary, but you can split a lot of costs when you’re not going solo. For example, sharing bedrooms and splitting food bills are just a couple of the ways you can save money while travelling. Going with friends can also help with preparing yourself emotionally especially when going on bigger trips.

5.     Follow the Trends

At certain times of the year, some destinations are more popular than others which drives up the price. This can be challenging for people on a budget, but thankfully the cost of travel fluctuates throughout the year. By following trends, you will get more inspiration for where you should travel, but you’ll also be able to identify cheaper times to travel to certain places.

6.     Explore Domestic Travel

Travel doesn’t always need to be international, and there are likely many places much closer to home you can visit. Explore traveling within your state or to a neighboring state to visit somewhere you’ve never been before. This can be cheaper and is often possible by car or train, which can also bring down the cost and complexity of your trip.

7.     Set Up a Travel Fund

If you find that money is one of the main barriers to traveling more, set up a savings account or fund which is specifically for your travel costs. This can create motivation to save more money if you really want to travel more, but it also ensures that you have a pot of money set aside for your traveling needs.

With so many things to see and do in the world, it’s no surprise that many of us want to travel more and more. But money, time, and other restrictions can hold us back and make this popular hobby a challenge. Thankfully, you can implement changes in your life that will enable you to travel further, and easier!

The three sessions of the symposium will each be 90 minutes in length and address three critical themes: the Future of Energy, the Future of Artificial Intelligence, and the Future of Global Health. Each session will focus on future trends as well as projections of key changes in people’s lives with the increasing intervention of science and technology. These topics are pressing issues at the center of the scientific community’s attention, accounting for most nominations in this year’s VinFuture Awards. With the meaningful gathering of eminent scientists, policymakers and leading entrepreneurs, the symposium will promote scientific and technical support to create new breakthroughs, contributing to improving people’s lives and realizing sustainable development for our planet and future generations.

The events are centered around the VinFuture Award Ceremony, held in the evening of January 20th at the Hanoi Opera House. This will be a formal ceremony with the participation of Vietnamese government officials, world-leading scientists – recipients of prestigious scientific awards such as the Nobel Prize, the Millennium Technology Prize, the Turing Award,… Following the ceremony will be a outstanding performance exclusively created for the event, featuring two international music stars who have won various prestigious awards: John Legend and Dang Thai Son.

The Award Ceremony will be streamed live on VTV and international platforms for science and technology.

The closing event of the Sci-Tech Week is the Scientific Dialogue with the inaugural VinFuture Prize Laureates, which will take place on the morning of January 21st, 2022 at VinUniversity (Hanoi). Held just after the award announcement night, this event serves to inspire the public with the first generation of VinFuture Prize Laureates’ sharing about their lives, their motivations, and their research journeys to the successful creation of their award-winning inventions.

Along with the main events, VinFuture will also host The Sci-Tech Week with a series of exciting academic workshops, exhibition, public lectures, and so on, that is expected to attract the participation of scientists and the general public.

The Sci-Tech Week and VinFuture Award Ceremony will take place annually, contributing to positioning Vietnam as a new destination for global science and technology, while creating the foundation for the multilateral connection between Vietnam’s scientific and technological community and the world. VinFuture expects to tap into new opportunities for the intellectual connections between scientists, policy makers and entrepreneurs, promoting healthy commercialization, and suggesting new research ideas with high applicability, as to fulfill VinFuture’s mission of serving humanity./.
